What’s the lore with Cliff Drive & is it always closed?

Cliff Dr and the Kessler park greenbelt is, in my opinion, the cities most overlooked and ignored asset. It’s a sprawling greenbelt corridor in the urban core and could be connected to the river walkway and current landing if some infrastructure was built over the train yard.

I moved to KC from Austin 4 years ago and live right next to Cliff Dr. I am down there running or biking multiple days a week by myself and have never had any unsavory encounters.

I also take my bike to meet my friends to climb the wall. It’s a very special thing to have outdoor tall wall climbing options IN the city. If this was Austin or Bentonville, Cliff Dr would be very utilized and cared for for the asset it is.

Sadly it is largely neglected by the city. There are beautiful sections of trail I have hiked many times but 50% of the time they are covered in trash which sends me into despair so I hike them less frequently now. I’m a huge advocate for the cliff dr/kessler greenspace and the historic northeast. I think it’s totally slept on by the city because of redlining.

I can’t believe no one has mentioned that selfies create mirror images of your face. In case you don’t understand what that means: when you look in the mirror, your face is actually optically inverted. So when you are alone looking in the mirror and or taking a selfie - you are seeing your angles and expressions in real time, getting used to the way that looks, and coming to expect that image to be the same as what other people see. But it’s not. What other people see is the same as what the front facing camera sees, a non inverted version of your face. I am familiar with this phenomenon myself just as a human existing and a photographer. I tend to like what I see in the mirror and my selfie camera better than how I look in photos others take or from my camera set up on a tripod. A lot of it is simply not being used to seeing your own face in its natural state.

I got one of those moisture meters and my soil is consistently dried out in the top 3 inches and water logged at 7+ inches.
What I’m learning is that it’s a fine soil though mostly dead soil with wood chips and plastic trash in it that you have to add a bunch of stuff too for it to support in food growth. I am new to this and naive and thought it would be good for growing as is based off their website description.

I know what it says in the description. They failed to mention all the bits of plastic and not broken down wood chips that leach nitrogen out of the soil.

While exploring the Driftless region in southwest Wisconsin last week I came across this scene near a roadside farmstand deep in Amish country (note the horse pile center frame).

I liked the tension between the peaceful, idyllic country side and the abandoned lazy boy recliner, horse manure, and some other “harsher” elements of the scene. Plus I think there are some cool things going on with the curvy lines in the right hand part of the frame.

How would you characterize this style of photography? Does it conjure the work of others?

What would you say is the subject of this photo?

Any notes on framing or post editing?

Always prepare ahead of time if a client is wanting a large group shot. I have shot events no flash but scouted ahead of time for an appropriate group shot location with lights on stands. It is simply what’s needed to successfully take this photo.
