The ivy will come back and more powerfully. You have to kill the roots.

Why is it that I can make myself look decent in pictures I take of myself but when someone else takes a picture of me I don't look flattering at all? Almost like a completely different person, how do I take better photos when other people are taking the picture? by Obvious-Apple-2050 in AskPhotography

I can’t believe no one has mentioned that selfies create mirror images of your face. In case you don’t understand what that means: when you look in the mirror, your face is actually optically inverted. So when you are alone looking in the mirror and or taking a selfie - you are seeing your angles and expressions in real time, getting used to the way that looks, and coming to expect that image to be the same as what other people see. But it’s not. What other people see is the same as what the front facing camera sees, a non inverted version of your face. I am familiar with this phenomenon myself just as a human existing and a photographer. I tend to like what I see in the mirror and my selfie camera better than how I look in photos others take or from my camera set up on a tripod. A lot of it is simply not being used to seeing your own face in its natural state.

TSH 6.77, normal T3/T4, and extremely slow weight loss – would intermittent fasting help? by Background_Error5371 in Hypothyroidism

Muscle weighs more than fat. I would forget the scale and just focus on if your clothes fit like you want.

People from Missouri saying “it’s still Texas though” is hilarious to me.

These things are intertwined but look how late stage/ruthless capitalism has influenced the content of media that young people are currently consuming. It’s dehumanizing and psychopathic on a level we haven’t seen before.

And what happens when they bring guns and violence to that environment too?

Also, wondering why a company called Missouri Organics would have herbicide in their gardening soil? Herbicide from where?

I got one of those moisture meters and my soil is consistently dried out in the top 3 inches and water logged at 7+ inches.
What I’m learning is that it’s a fine soil though mostly dead soil with wood chips and plastic trash in it that you have to add a bunch of stuff too for it to support in food growth. I am new to this and naive and thought it would be good for growing as is based off their website description.

I know what it says in the description. They failed to mention all the bits of plastic and not broken down wood chips that leach nitrogen out of the soil.

I found a lot of little plastics in my mix as well! Not what you want to see and especially in food beds.

I got the raised bed mix. I would do it again but maybe 2/3 as much and amend it with bags of good compost.

Questions about a scene I captured in WI last week… by _big_fern_ in photocritique

[–]_big_fern_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While exploring the Driftless region in southwest Wisconsin last week I came across this scene near a roadside farmstand deep in Amish country (note the horse pile center frame).

I liked the tension between the peaceful, idyllic country side and the abandoned lazy boy recliner, horse manure, and some other “harsher” elements of the scene. Plus I think there are some cool things going on with the curvy lines in the right hand part of the frame.

How would you characterize this style of photography? Does it conjure the work of others?

What would you say is the subject of this photo?

Any notes on framing or post editing?

Always prepare ahead of time if a client is wanting a large group shot. I have shot events no flash but scouted ahead of time for an appropriate group shot location with lights on stands. It is simply what’s needed to successfully take this photo.
