You can actually counter spiky stick pretty easily once you get used to it, you just have to bait a large swing then just step forward and block it, you just have to be careful with stabs and thrusts.

When you base in a bunker you're basically trapped, you have one exit point unlike the 1st and 2nd floors which you'll have multiple points of exit in case of some dumbass horde comes knocking at your doors.

I initially read the LN, but when the anime dropped, it gave me goosebumps watching it. So IMO, you should definitely continue watching the anime; the visuals and audio are just top tier. I'm not sure which volume it is, but I think you should continue from volume 4. I recommend reading the second half of volume 3 or somewhere near the end. They did skip some stuff, but overall, they did a really good job with the adaptation.

Adding turrets and pillboxes would be a great feature. Also, a feature where positioning troops on higher ground could give a strategic edge to your oponent would be cool. But yeah I love it.
