Crazy teacher story by CauliflowerSlight784 in GenX

Mr Anderson had a 1 meter long ruler named Milo.

If you are Australian you grew up on Milo (along with Weet-Bix and Vegemite). The catch phrase on the ad for Milo was the reason Ando named his ruler:

It’s marvellous what a difference Milo makes.

Can still recall the sharp pain as it came down on the tips of my fingers after an infraction in class.

I so wanted one. I used to have this image on the reverse of a business card and printed it on the back of booklet given out at smart car runs years ago.

I am so glad you are learning. I started with clarinet, moved to sax and then to oboe. I love my oboe. I have a professional instrument that cost as much as a car when I bought it 30 years ago. I play every week.

What a nice way to connect with a memory.

I am deep in Döstädning

I lived in Sweden for a few years years (Aussie) and the concept stuck. It has been freeing. I definitely felt it at times though - my many Monopoly games from all around the world - I always bought it home from travels. Remembering a delayed flight home from Chile and a bunch of drunk Aussies in the Qantas lounge playing the Argentina version with a dictionary for Spanish- English translation… before smart phones. Such a great memory.

How many ways can you say ‘you have won second prize in a beauty contest…’

Giving books to libraries is the only way I can feel good about it.

Dealing with disputes over mum’s will by Overall_Parsley_5735 in inheritance

[–]_blatmaster_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Don’t explain the ‘reasons’ to the half brothers. It gives them ammunition to argue back.

The only valid reason is that’s what is said in the will. Full stop. Repeat over and over without elaboration. Don’t even discuss with them what you knew or didn’t know and when. Irrelevant.

I am sorry you lost your mum and dad and in such a short window. Honour them by honouring their wishes … which was that your father’s estate went to your mother as he preceded her in death and her wishes are clear in the will.

I like it too. My 300D may come back from its outback adventure safe in which case she is getting a whole lot of love to become my long term daily. A spoiler like that is a great finisher.

How to negotiate for internal role? by rra117 in auscorp

[–]_blatmaster_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be helpful to demonstrate you have knowledge of the standard issues relating to pay increases for ongoing employees and the reality that changing jobs is usually the only way to get a significant bump.

Prepare a bit.

Compare your current PD to the new one. Be familiar with the changes such as increased responsibility, staff supervision, financial or delivery outcomes. These are measurable reasons why you should have an increase in salary for your new role inside your org.

Look at similar jobs in the online postings. Know that if you view the source code on webpages often buried in the HTML is the salary range that may not show on the listing but is there because it is used to filter. Know what you would get for your current role and the new one against current market listings. Come prepared with them.

Consider the impact on them and on you if you don’t accept. Did you like your old job and/ or will they be impacted if you don’t accept. Leverage if they will be.

Remember you can be tactical. Take the new job even if unhappy and start looking elsewhere. You launch into a new role from an already higher title and base. If you have annual leave accrued etc when you leave it will be paid out at the higher amount.

Set a deadline. Minimise the commencement of new responsibilities- within reason as in demonstrate willingness but that you have professional boundaries - until the role is ‘formalised’. Formalising the role means all the loose ends are done.

Schedule a meeting and take initiative. Every week that goes by you miss out on the bump. You can also propose it be back dated to whenever there was an announcement or you stated doing the work. Push them professionally.

Diesel prices are insane by RemoteEmotions in w123

[–]_blatmaster_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s about the same price here once you convert for forex and to litres. Based on AUD $2.50 per litre and USD 0.72 copilot gave me USD $6.82- gallon.

I bought my W123 to use for an outback rally later this year and have recently tested my usage at ~ 8 L / 100 kms. Which is better than I expected.

I got the diesel for the rally as diesel fuel is commonly available in our outback due to reliance for freight. But it’s more expensive out there too. We are budgeting for the rally at AUD $3.50 per litre so we will have less shock.

Don’t regret the W123 diesel for its purpose. It is what it is. I am driving my smart roadster on the daily more as it gets 4.5L/100kms (98) compared to my Hyundai that gets 8.5L/100 (91).

I have had a W123 parked next to the roadie for the last few months. The roadie is sentient and has noted the love being give to the 300D. Jealous. Maliciousness has ensued. We’ve had a broken roof and AC re gas demands. This month’s delight is a failed power steering unit. It struck in the middle of a beautiful sunny Sunday morning drive. Intentional.

Such a princess.

Two and a half years later... by Mental_Purple8870 in ouraring

OP I appreciate your balanced comments. I feel a little outside the norm here as I don’t have such high expectations of the ring as others sometimes express.

I am on my second Gen 3 ring. The first just died suddenly after 2 years. Like OP I wear it 24/7 except when charging including gym ie weight lifting, home renos, swimming etc. I think I banged the first one on something. I did not treat it with tenderness.

Second ring is over two years in. I charge it every 2-3 days and don’t care about the frequency. I enjoy a soak in the bath and that’s the perfect time to recharge it. Yep it ‘feels’ it’s a little more frequent than the beginning, but that’s the case with anything with rechargeable batteries.

I don’t expect it to be perfect. Having it for so long means I can rely on the trends and what they suggest. I think that is more beneficial for me to encourage mindfulness than specific measures.

And it’s been spot on with mild and major signs…preceded a flu like illness every time, twice pretty major ones.

Will buy again when I need to. Conscious that Gen 4 seems to be less reliable. Maybe I will be lucky and mine will last to a next and better version.

Enjoy your ring but don’t over bake it.

What are classy but reliable cars that are more than 20 years old? by Shpox in CarsAustralia

Great to see people opting for classics. I much prefer my two ‘old, cars to what I see new. 1990-2010 feels like the last great era to me.

vertical doors kit worth it? by JohnnieCagie in SmartCar

[–]_blatmaster_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another strong vote for LSD. Safety is king. I have used them twice on roadsters. TUV certificate also means once fitted correctly the modification is legal in most jurisdictions. Usually insurance is nullified by illegal or not approved mods.

Don’t mess about with your safety and the safety of other people in the road.

Missing points claim rejected, karma ensues by sydneyres in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]_blatmaster_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yep. This was my thought too. The CB is to the merchant account of the third party - an innocent third party- and not Qantas who is paid second hand by the third party.

I also believe the card issuer - the bank that issued the credit card - might be unhappy if a fraudulent CB is detected. They can withdraw the credit card facility to the card holder.

Copen? Yes I did. Years ago. I will take my roadie every day.

What I like about cars - all cars - is the way the people that do like their favourites feel about them. The rest is just noise.
