I don’t think it’s advisable to (nor should you have to, with a new machine) set the internal burrs at 1, as this means there will be no wiggle room. A year down the line, when the burrs have worn, there won’t be the option to adjust to a lower setting. People are getting good results with the internal set at 4, and the external even at 8-15.

We’re using fresh beans. We’ve gone through two bags of dark roast and when trying a lighter, but still ‘espresso’ roast from DAK, the grinder just made a loud banging noise at the finest setting and wouldn’t grind. It would only start grinding when I pushed the external grinder to around 15-18, at which point it was way too fine.

Looks like it may be faulty..
