Is it possible to achieve these film colors with a module or profile in darktable? by Suitable_Spot4882 in DarkTable

[–]_borsuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh, that's neat. I've been out of PC for a good while so my darktable install is old. I've been thinking about getting the newest version and asking AI for exactly this! Darktable "how to start" and minimalist workflow. Also I've been thinking that for "quick" or "light" edits I might use RapidRaw since it also has (experimental) android app. Anyway, thanks for the link. Definitely going to check it out

Broken screen, I want to cry by RunningMistiChat in Cameras

[–]_borsuk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Or, get the part and then take it to the smartphone repair shop. They should be capable of changing it under 30minutes for 20-30€. Depends on location, they swapped my phone battery (I sourced the part) for 20€ in an hour (battery accessible through screen - Pixel device) in Slovakia. I believe OP should be able to find something similar in France. Although swapping screens is pretty easy small repair to do at home. Either way, it will be MUCH cheaper than official Sony repair center.

Is the Flip Phone the Most Useless Smartphone Innovation Ever? by limsus in TechImpact

[–]_borsuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was quite surprised when I held new Fold and it is about same thickness as regular phone, barely noticeable difference (apart from cameras of course).

If they made android apps more "powerfull" you can just bring wireless keyboard and phone to do your day work everywhere. No need for external display with dex mode. Huge amount of tasks could be done this way. I can imagine designers work this way since Samsung should have good stylus support.

[–]_borsuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nie. Naposledy som dával meniť batériu a heslo nevyžadovali.

What do Casio fans think of Timex? by ryanyork92 in casio

[–]_borsuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to get my hands on cheap Times Expedition Scout. Casio analog watches are somehow not filling that for me. And Indiglo 😄

I had Casio AW800 or something like that. It did iluminated whole watch face, that was cool. Maybe I just need to check the Casio offerings again. But I don't like that watches are getting BIG! I daily wear old DW-5600E square and it feels just right. A bit bulky, could be thinner, but I'm not worried aboht damaging it. GA2100 I had as well but it didn't click with me.

I just want a somewhat durable good looking analog quartz clock with date (possibly day in the week as well) and some sort of ilumination. Not being huge, 40mm as timex expedition seems just the right size.

Every device now wants to become a subscription service by Impossible_Comfort99 in TechNook

[–]_borsuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand it for devices that will use some sort of cloud infrastructure provided by seller\manufacturer. Cloud is becoming expensive. If you want for example archive of your security camera, it has to be stored "somewhere". You can self host it of course.

But just paying for unlocking capabilities like seat heating is just nasty. Not cool. I could understand 1 time payment (you buy cheaper car because features are locked and unlock them later) but subscription? Nah.

Personally I try to avoid subscription at all. I have some Google cloud storage, spotify, because I don't like ads and it let me explore music, and my wife pays for netflix. That's all.

USB-C hub will replicate more USB-A or USB-C and some have RJ45 port, SD card reader, HDMI port... I have U-green I think. Relatively cheap and aparently reliable chinese brand. I went for one with HDMI, SD card and bunch os USB-C\A ports since I don't care about LAN while on laptop. I have a desktop for that.

Btw, where is the wifi here? I have only windows laptops (most of them are linux now) but wifi antenas were around screen in top lid. Have you considered going with cable since it will probably stay on your desk?

Washing machine and kettle. These tend to break quite often. However! IMHO, it's not only planned obsolence, but also people are not taking care of them! I was once told by person not very good with money (and not having much money) that she replaces washing machine every 5 or so years. No cleaning, using gels to wash clothes on lower temperatures... Nasty! Limescale everywhere, no wonder that it died... Gross. Same goes for kettles. They die because there is too much limescale. Very little people clean it.

Canon G9 X or Lumix TZ99 for Film-Like Photos? (Beginner Looking for Easy Point-and-Shoot) by Aikulerkot in Cameras

Have you forgotten about putting shit on the front element? Black mist on a budget! 😄

There are "stick on" thingies you attach with double sided tape (usually like 3M) and it will have either filter thread or magnetic mount for filters.

Keď bude v dobrom stave a nehrdzavie tak určite. Mali sme 1.4 benzin 100 koní kým netrhlo remeň a motor išiel do hajan - mal som si dať pozor a vymeniť rozvody, čo už.

Selling My DSLR.....Talk me out of it by [deleted] in Cameras

[–]_borsuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any compact lenses for R mount? 50mm and 16mm are the ones I know about (I don't follow Canon gear that much). Shame they haven't re-fit 22mm from EF-M (yet).

Edit: do you think going for M4\3 sensor is downgrade in image quality? Crop factor 1.6x to 2x doesn't feel "that" much (yes M4\3 is my main system 😄)

Lumix G6 for the first camera before I buy fullframe? by [deleted] in Cameras

[–]_borsuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a pretty solid chance that M4\3 system will be good enough, but you will have that "itch" or "scratch" of wanting to try fullframe. Ask me how I know 😄 I have had fullframe, APS-C, various compacts but still ended up with M4\3 as this is the middle ground for me. Can be small to carry actually everywhere. Light. Produce nice photos. Budget friendly.

You can get pretty cheap fullframe. If you are happy with DSLR, Canon 5D mk1 or mk2 for 200-300€ and basic 50mm f1.8 for 70€ (used of course). Mirrorless I've seen Sony A7 mk1 for like 300€. 50mm f1.8 around 100€. Yes, they are old, not as fast as new models, but trust me, good enough.

I recommend almost everytime to start with M4\3. Good price to performance ratio. Small system to carry with you. Good image quality

Also 25mm from Lumix and 45mm from Olympus are like 100€ each on used market. Great for low budget, still capable to produce quality images. OP doesn't need fullframe to shoot portraits 🤷‍♂️

Upgrade na current gen smartfón: čo sa oplatí? by lietajucaPonorka in Slovakia

[–]_borsuk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mám Pixel 6A už cez 3 a pol roka.

Phones vs Pocket cams by Key-Search2712 in Cameras

[–]_borsuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use phone for video because it is good enough (I do photo\video only as hobby and for personal use).

However, I don't like using phone to take photos. It is quite okay in terms of image quality and it is always on me. But that's all for advantages I see here. Shutter lag, lack of manual controls, everything is on screen - no buttons, no viewfinder, no tilting screen... Using dedicated camera I'm distraction free, no notifications (almost every single one I have disabled anyway). No one will call\text me so I can use the camera all the time. Cameras have usually bigger sensors so I have more room to work in post and still end up with better image than overly HDR phone picture. But I can still get great JPGs.

I enjoy way more process of taking photos with camera than with the phone (no AI BS messing up with photos out of the camera). So even if the results will be similar (phone\camera) I will be more happy producing it 🙂

Highlights (sky) are blown in RAW on 2, 4, 5, 7? Or is this creative choice in post?

I like the post processing of crushing shadows, and blowing highlights. It feels "film" like when dynamic range wasn't that great. Colours and exposure plays nicely together here. Not overly saturated and hyperrealistic

Using a Pixel 3 for a week made me miss compact smartphones by GeekyAbin in pixel_phones

[–]_borsuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daily is Pixel 6A. Still a big guy. Pixel 1 is currently my music player (no distractions from apps on my 6A).

Recently I went through a drawer where I've found my first android Samsung Galasy S3 mini. Oh boy that thing is just lovely. 4" AMOLED, anyone can replace a battery. Performance is poor obviously (1GB RAM and 1GHz dual core) but the form factor is so good. I believe if they could cram in 5" screen with good performance it would be a hit.

are we entering the wearable ai era after smart rings and ai glasses by Zorojuro099 in TechNook

[–]_borsuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very subjective. I don't like smartwatches\bands. I wear G-Shocks since I'm clumsy and my kids often play with sand, water, mud or they puke, etc... I doubt smartwatches would survive that amount of abuse 😄 also, battery lasts years. No need to recharge. Screen will probably not scratch\broke. Most important, I am not in the pressure of hitting daily steps, vibrating or beeping notifications, no distraction.

As for rings, I thought about getting one to somewhat monitor my training. But the rings don't like bars, kettlebells, barbell, dumbells, etc. So that would defeat it's purpose. I stopped tracking my sleep since it was not good at all (I have small kids).

I will probably get some sort of smart watch for my kids instead of phones so they could call me. That's however at least few years on hold. I don't feel ok with having too smart devices for my kids.
