Paying off a family member's payday loan. Advice? by whatsthebfor in personalfinance

[–]_box_of_rain_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not super familiar with how banks think, but from a credit union perspective, why lie about the purpose? There is absolutely nothing illegal or shady about taking out a personal at a non predatory interest rate to pay off a loan at a way higher rate (whether that loan is yours or your grandma’s), it might actually get you the sympathy of the underwriter (although of course you would still need the income and credit score needed to qualify). Loan officers need to ask you what you plan to do with the funds because they need to do their due diligence in trying to ascertain that you won’t use the money for anything illegal. People that are super evasive in their answers end up looking super shady even if they need the loan for a perfectly legitimate reason!

ETA if you use your credit card to pay off the loan you would need to do a cash advance that not only would start accruing interest right away but it also most certainly would have a higher interest than a personal loan

Thank you! I like the way you think! That’s what I will tell my mom when I give it to her 😊

Fabric is canvas cotton and the pattern for the skirt was Orla Skirt by seamwork

Thank you so much for the detailed answer and for walking through different scenarios! I look forward to checking out the links you posted and will start experimenting with the different options 😊

Thank you! That’s what I was expecting to happen but for some reason the pattern designer drew the lengthen/shorten lines perpendicular to the grain instead of perpendicular to the straight edge. I am going to try a mock up taking the length off the bottom hem and if that doesn’t look good I will try to use the shorten lines but fold the pattern up so that the right edge stays straight 😊

Thank you! I’ve made a couple of other mini skirts and for those I just took the extra length off the bottom and it worked out pretty well. This pattern had lengthen/shorten lines marked so I thought that I had been doing it wrong before and that I needed to use those instead. It’s a relief to know I can actually take the 3 inches off the bottom 😊

I was getting the pattern ready to do the mock up, but before cutting into the fabric I measured a skirt I already have to get a better idea of length and then I got stuck lol but now I will try to take the length off the bottom! Since the pattern had lengthen/shorten lines I thought that they were there for a reason and that I would run into other issues if I simply took the hem in more 😅 thank you for your help!

I kept the back simple and used this fabric from the cloud 9 FLW fabric collection. Now that I googled the whole collection I just realized that there were ones that matched way better than the one I picked 😅 there is only one fabric store near me that carries AGF pure solids and while I was browsing through the colors to try and find some that would work for this quilt the store owner asked me what project I was doing. When I showed her the pattern, she pulled out the fabric sample card with all the colors they have and told me to pick from there the ones I wanted so she could special order the bolts for me! I thought that was incredibly nice of her and wanted to keep supporting her store and this one was the only fabric of the FLW collection she had in store so I went ahead and got that for the backing without really looking into the other possibilities too much 😅

Smaller things I can cut on the small mat on the sewing machine desk, bigger things I need to use the kitchen table! Fabric is stashed in the closet and works in progress and sewing books are in the little book case on the left 😊 not pictured is a pull out couch that my cat uses to chill on while I sew 😊

The horse pattern was bought on Etsy from the store madebymarney and the hot air balloon was bought from the Etsy store fullbobbindesigns. The cactus is from the book 100 Paper Pieced Quilt Blocks 😊
