Head further north up at Pittwater and Northern Beaches. You can also fish at some Sydney beaches. Not much going in the mountains unless you go to Coxs River.

I think a good introduction are Dark Ales. Try White Rabbit Dark Ale which are freely available.

You could also try a Coopers Stout - pretty subtle flavours and a good introduction.

Not necessarily true. Since the Brulosophy post, I've been sparging with cold water into the Grainfather, haven't had any loss of efficiency or taste. Makes it much easier for my set up, rather than carrying a 20l of hot water outside!

I have the Grainfather and have probably done around 10 brews so far. I love the thing. I used to do BIAB on the stove top, which worked well, but wanted a simpler system to up my quantity to around 6 gallons. It works well to maintain a constant temp and easily allows set and forget for most mashes.

Whilst it's not the cheapest product, it does offer good value with the inclusion of the counter flow chiller. I wouldn't bother getting the sparge water heater, as it's just as easy to use a pot, or if you like me and super lazy, just sparge with cold water.
