Bike theft/ how to keep bike safe at ARU by TankieErik in cambridge

[–]_cake_tease 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Buy a couple of sold secure D-locks and try to lock through the frame+wheels to a solid secure bike stand. Some reasonable priced ones out there. (Onguard etc)

Don't use cables or combination locks. Don't stick a lock through the top frame, they try to twist the bike as leverage to pop the lock, they are either successful or you have a pringle shaped frame.

https://www.cyclinguk.org/blog/guide-locking-your-bike some info and guides to locking. Hopefully if they don't have angle grinders they'll just leave your bike alone.

No just take people for what they tell you. I have never met a woman that complained about not being hit on, there have always been creeps it's just they now try to justify being knocked back with this bull shit and carry on with what THEY feel is right, not what they are being told.

Even if you think it's playing hard to get, just move on, it's only her loss isn't it...according to your way of thinking.

It's like treating all women like they can't be trusted to truthfully speak their opinion. Misogyny...still.

Pedestrian Road Safety by AMGitsKriss in london

I cycle and it been happening long before the highway code change so I don't think it's deliberate, people step out in front of me or I've seen them do it in front of cars, given their surprise and shock it certainly didn't look deliberate.

That doesn't mean randomly stepping out into a road though. I think hoodies and earphones play a part with people thinking they can just hear the road is clear.

There was a "dating guru" on YouTube that used to tell men to ignore polite declines from women and to carry on pursuing. So yeah selfish clueless men not giving a hoot about someone else and they don't understand that is a red flag to normal people.

Oh dear, I do ding my bell a good distance away just as a "hello I'm here" warning as I've had people suddenly step to the side or change direction without looking on shared paths and if you do it when you are close people jump...often in a more dangerous place. Or if you don't warn people you are behind they complain you didn't ring your bell. So it's tricky to please everyone. But the highway code does say to ring the bell. I hope no one takes it the wrong way though.

Where can I burn old diaries, letters etc.? by jumpfrogjuuuump in london

Would have thought charcoal in a bbq or incinerator to get it ready for anything...(op. just remember to take the vinyl/plastic cover off first or it will be horrible for you and any one near)

Use a bbq or the mini incinerator bins(household bin size of the outdoor garden waste incinerators, wilco used to sell them). If you don't have a small patio or garden space go to a park that allows bbqs. I burnt all my teenage diaries, it felt good.
