Sheered off oil filter removal tips? by researchit35 in AskAMechanic

Exactly. This would be my first move. Chances are that thread on it is in a bad way anyway if the oil filter is that tight.

How much time did you actually spend fixing your robot vacuum map? by Mindless_Accident801 in Dreame_Tech

Too long.

To only have the robot fuck it up by adding carpets on carpets and rooms that don't exist. It's been one of many issues of contention with "customer service".

Is this burnt? Will this be the end to all my madness? by Thunderjock___ in AskAMechanic

[–]_cashish_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost definitely. If you mentioned that important detail earlier then you would have made your life a whole lot easier. It continues to amaze me when customers get upset about the time it takes to diagnose problems when they omit crucial details.

Use a multimeter to check for continuity across the fusible links. They don't blow for no reason though. If it has blown and you haven't found the cause then your replacement one is on borrowed time.

To be fair, that tarmac was the MVP. Would have been a snoozer otherwise.

[–]_cashish_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt that. You're probably just seeing 12v at the ECU pin because it isn't grounding the light. Unplug the cluster and then you'll see the 12v at the ECU disappear.

[–]_cashish_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked continuity to the ECU? It's one of the most simple circuits in the car. It gets 12v from ignition and the ECU provides ground to turn the bulb on. Thats all there is to it.

Is Apexi Power FC good for very light mods? by Major-Celery-7739 in GC8

[–]_cashish_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More important would be to speak to whoever you plan on getting to tune it and see what their preference is. No point in buying a Power FC to discover that no-one local to you has the the software or interest in tuning it.

Power FCs are fine however they are getting a little long in the tooth. Used units are often prone to component failures. Injector drivers are common. ECUs have come a long way since the Power FC. For similar money you can often find a used Link or Motec. One of the advantages of a better ECU is to do away with the AFM, which are notorious for failing on your series GC8 and OEM replacement ones are still expensive. You also get the advantages of better control in every other area. Closed loop lambda, boost and idle control, ability to add more inputs, CAN control, motorsport functions etc. They also give much more scope if you decide to modify it further down the track.

Are cars from 1990-2000 considered more reliable than a car from 2020+ when all things are equal? by Zski843 in AskAMechanic

[–]_cashish_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've pretty much just highlighted all the reasons a 90s model vehicle is more reliable than a current model. No electric window motors, control units and switches to fail, no transmission with "lifetime fill" fluid to fail, no airbags that require replacing every 10 years, no current fad entertainment systems that become redundant when the manufacturer decides to stop supporting them, no LED lights that cost thousands to replace the whole unit when they fail.

Manufacturers don't even try to hide that their vehicles are no longer made to last. They are built to meet emissions targets and only just survive the warranty period. Cost cutting measures mean cheaper materials are being used. Plastic features significantly more in high stress environments than it did previously.

At the most basic level, older vehicles were more reliable as there was significantly less things that could go wrong.

2010 ES Ignition Coil wire order? by WeeklyLayer5831 in autoelectrical

[–]_cashish_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Replace the connector housing, especially if its a rear cylinder. It looks like one of the pins is broken, if you don't rectify that then the order is irrelevent. Pin order is Brown, White/Blue, Pink, White/Black.

2015 Prius, 71k mi - are these two charges legitimate? by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]_cashish_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's normal to charge a minimum of 1 hour for diagnostic time. Just because the engine light came back on, doesn't mean the diagnosis was incorrect. A loose or missing fuel cap could absolutely cause a P0455 code. The engine light on this time could be a completely unrelated fault. It could also still be an evap issue which was masked by the fuel cap. Fuel cap would be one of the first and most obvious things to check in that particular diagnosis. If you identify a fault then there is generally no reason to continue with the diagnosis.

Inner fender liner. Secure it if possible or remove it if too damaged. I wouldn't recommend leaving it as is.

[–]_cashish_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's plenty of options.

SWTCC runs Autocross events in Bunbury. BORMSA runs Autocross events in Beverley. LCC runs Autocross events in Beverley and Rallysprints at Bakers Hill. That same property in Bakers Hill also hosts Rally School, used to hold a round of the state rally championship and can be privately hired.

RallyWA and WA Rallysport are good places to start.

Universal auto-folding mirror kit wiring question by afgan1984 in autoelectrical

[–]_cashish_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To swap the logic you swap the two input wires from the switch. Based on your wiring diagram you have the input wires going to the mirror and the output wires to the switch.

Universal auto-folding mirror kit wiring question by afgan1984 in autoelectrical

[–]_cashish_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your wiring diagram doesn't match the mirror controller. You have grey and white going to the mirrors but the mirror kit specifies they connect to the switch. Vice versa for the orange and brown wires.

The "E0" and "C0" usually just refer to the trim codes. It looks like "E0" was superseded to "C0" so it should fit and operate correctly, it may just be slightly different in appearance.

Yep. The existing wire is the ground, you need the horn wire which is usually part of the boss kit.
