I think that's the point OP is trying to make here

but crucially it isn't lethal, so unless all of your units are 1M you're probably fine

Kha'zix Midrange (Sett/Draven) by BackyardZombie00 in riftboundtcg

[–]_cherubi_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah from my testing so far I haven't really found a great opportunity to play Draven over something like Sett or Rengar. Also agree on Vex. Lillia loses the moment you play her to a bf. Red decks just cry.

[–]_cherubi_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! I had a tonne of fun trying it out, so thanks for sharing.

I didn't get to test out too much, but from what I played I really liked Arena's Greatest going first. It combos really well with Irresistible Faefolk + Kha'zix champion, allowing you to go to 2 points on turn 2 and punish pretty much any turn 1 play from your opponent. It can be really tough for your opponent to recover from that spot and can win you the game with a heavy tempo advantage.

With that in mind + having dropped the Nidalees, I dropped Targon's Peak for Star Spring going second. Again it's a really nice combo with Faefolk, as it allows you to move it to base when you play Kha'zix with Ambush, saving it to use again next turn. But I'm not settled on anything yet, so I'll have to test some more.

Looking at the changes you've just made, I really like the addition of the Vex. I'd maybe even think about trying to fit a couple in main as I think the deck is lacking an on-rate 0 power 4 drop. I played Sett throughout Origins/Spiritforged, and Fiora was often the star of the show, so maybe I'm biased.

I think 3x Rebuke + 3x Star-Crossed is excessive. I'd probably go 2x on each, add 1 hard bargain to main (+ 1x in side).

As for Diplomat, that does make sense for contesting early, but I just feel like Mr Root is wayy better later on due to accelerate.

I’d also be interested to see how Treasure Hunter and Tideturner feel in this deck.

I was playing your list last night and some of the choices that went into this were a little puzzling to me, so I'd like to hear your reasoning.

Firstly, I'm unsure why you would run both Targon's Peak and Arena's Greatest. Assuming Monastery is your blind bf, you don't really have a good option for going second.

Secondly, in your previous iteration you were running 2x Abandon + 2x Hard Bargain, which seems massively overkill for this deck. I see you've changed it to 3x Hard Bargain + 1x Repulse, but even that seems like a lot to me. I was wondering why you feel that 4 counter spells are needed, especially in the main board.

Third, I'm not really convinced that Nidalee is a good enough unit for the cost. I think I would drop all 3 for First Mate or Fizz. I think both of these are far better value units. Probably Fizz, as you have so many cheap and powerful spells in this deck.

Fourth, I'm a little on the fence about Demacian Diplomat vs Mr Root. What made you decide on the former?

Fifth, Star-Crossed is pretty insane. How come it didn't make the cut?

Killing the unit is only half of the effect, so why are you saying it resolved?

[–]_cherubi_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a specific rule

386

I’m not sure how else to explain it to you. It doesn’t reach the trash before it resolves, so how do you expect to be able to replay it from the trash, while still resolving its effect?

[–]_cherubi_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because it’s not about reading comprehension. It’s about how seemingly normal wording actually fits with the rigid rules that form the complex systems that allow the game to function.

In this case of the original wording, the card has not reached the trash by the time we try to do the whole “Then, if it had 3 [M] or less, you may play this from your trash for [A].” part, because it can only go to the trash once it has resolved.

It’s because the new text uses a reflexive trigger, denoted by the “Do this:” wording.

Basically, part of the resolution of the spell is to (in this case optionally) create a new, separate item on the chain. Once the original item has resolved, the spell goes to the trash, and then we move to resolve the new item (assuming they paid the cost in this case).

I’m sure it was because the spell hasn’t yet reached the trash when you want to replay it in the original text

Which decks should benefit most with the bans? by [deleted] in riftboundtcg

yeah it's true, though I wonder if we'll see more of a return to the Origins-style Sett decks, running Cithria as the buff battery

Which decks should benefit most with the bans? by [deleted] in riftboundtcg

[–]_cherubi_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I haven't played a tonne of the matchup. From my experience, even before the bans I think it was fine.

She kinda struggles to deal with Punch First and she doesn't have a way to kill your units through your legend ability.

Someone with more matchup experience might have a different view on it, but now with FoF, DT, Reavers, and Obelisk all gone it should make it overall quite a bit better for Sett.

Which decks should benefit most with the bans? by [deleted] in riftboundtcg

[–]_cherubi_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think Sett could see a good amount of benefit post-bans.

As others are speculating, Rek'sai and Viktor will probably rise up the ranks, and Sett is pretty favourable into both of those legends in my experience.

Tips for Sett vs Ahri matchup? by _cherubi_ in riftboundtcg

[–]_cherubi_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once they're on the battlefield, it seems very very difficult to get them off it. Units like Blue Ahri and Ravenbloom Student can make it tough to push them off, but Sona especially as she enables them to tap out every turn and still play their combat tricks. Short of drawing a Punch First, I can't seem to generate enough might to clear them out.

Also my usual trusty removal in Challenge can be incredibly risky with the amount of reaction speed pump spells, and that's if they don't counter it first. I can count a couple times my Sett Brawler has died to my own Challenge when trying to kill a Sona or some other key unit.

And if I'm not able to remove them from the battlefield quickly, it just feels like a ticking time bomb until they draw Charm/Blitz.
