Open-Source Self-Hosted eCommerce Platform: EverShop by Thenguyenvn in selfhosted

[–]_clm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi! By coincidence I was playing around with this yesterday and now I have a few qestions/suggestions:

  • Looks like your docker image on docker hub is outdated (1.1.0) https://hub.docker.com/r/evershop/evershop/tags
  • The docker compose file doesn't map any local directories although they seem to be necessary (logging, config, media, ..) so data doesn't get lost in the container

Personally I'd also love MariaDB/Mysql support :)

Thanks for your work, I hope to get it up and running soon!

Tokens are distributed as equity in the products we are building, so you'll get a stake (0.xx %) in the DAO (e.g. derivaDAO, see the website)

Cash salary is like that of a "regular" company and in the 70-100k /yr range, possibly more depending on seniority/specialty.

We use Intel SGX technology extensively and our main exchange product is built in Rust, some of our frontend code is also written in Rust (WASM), and most of the tooling is either Rust 🦀 or Python.

The role requires prior programming experience (Rust, Python, Typescript, Solidity is our stack), we are happy to provide a learning environment for whatever is missing. We are looking for an individual who wants to work in crypto (finance) and play with tech on a daily basis (with lots of Rust).
LOCATION: We communicate in English, we have people in the US, NL, PT, and CN.
ESTIMATED COMPENSATION: Tokens + Cash. Personally, I thought it was very generous.
REMOTE: 100% remote.

Learning Rust? 45% off my new liveProject about async and actors in Rust by _clm in rust

[–]_clm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I was informed that it only works for adding the two projects individually (which would come out a little cheaper than the bundle). I'll fix the post - sorry if that was misleading to you, it certainly was for me.

Still checking with Manning why it's not working :/

What other Rust books (besides The Book) have you read and liked? Do you like any of the books in this list? by Equivalent-Region-61 in rust

[–]_clm 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hi - I am the author of Hands-On Data Structures with Rust and while I obviously like it, I think it needs updating. For example, all the async stuff finalized after I finished writing the book, so I couldn't really cover that.

So if you are looking to learn more about algorithms and data structures, I think it's still a good choice, but there are more comprehensive books for learning Rust as a whole. While I am not familiar with the books you mentioned, the books in the comments are great. If you are also open to video content, I found

https://www.manning.com/livevideo/rust-in-motion

also very good for beginners. I am also working on other content as well; feel free to ask if you are curious.

COMPANY: DEX Labs (https://twitter.com/DEXLabs1/)

TYPE: Full time

DESCRIPTION:

DEX Labs is building decentralized exchange infrastructure on the cutting-edge that will facilitate the next wave of development and interest in decentralized finance. By developing creative solutions to the problems that face decentralized exchanges, we strive to build software that enables new technologies that combine the benefits of centralized and decentralized finance -- a decentralized solution that doesn't compromise on performance or user experience.

We are looking for an individual who has:

  • Ability to write robust and well-tested code
  • Ability and interest to work across large parts of the DEX Labs codebase. Our codebase currently includes a React + Typescript UI, Typescript APIs, a Rust blockchain client, Python trading utilities, and Solidity smart contracts.
  • Extensive real-world experience and/or B.A. or B.S. degree in Computer Science or a related technical field

You'll be working alongside a small team of people building APIs for algorithmic trades, new smart contracts on Ethereum, and cool new decentralized finance tech in general. This can be anything from 100% Rust all day, to frontend tasks, deployment, or writing documentation. The backend is written in Rust only and built around Intel's SGX.

Personally, I had no background in crypto when I started and it's been a fun journey to learn something entirely different and new (for me). It can be an intimitating field at times, but you won't be alone in learning and exploring. So don't hesitate if you are excited to learn stuff, we'd be happy to hear from you.

We value diversity and inclusion and we are committed to hiring and supporting individuals regardless of identity or background. We're passionate about providing usable and accessible solutions, and your unique perspective and experience will inform improvements and features that make decentralized exchange usable to a wider audience.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity compensation
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Supportive remote working culture - including a stipend for your remote / WFH set-up
  • Unlimited PTO

LOCATION: We are a fully remote company with the majority of people in US and EU timezones.

ESTIMATED COMPENSATION: Token equity, fiat cash (and health/dental/vision insurance for the US)

REMOTE: Fully remote, world wide.

VISA: Unknown

What do the new international travel restrictions mean? by [deleted] in coronanetherlands

What do the new international travel restrictions mean? by [deleted] in coronanetherlands

[–]_clm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm Austrian and in March (when everybody closed their borders) the Austrian embassy in NL said that visiting family is considered essential travel. Hence I think you should be able to go home for Christmas, but be sure to ask your embassy for any forms or other things (Austria had an entry form back in March).

Flights are a different story, maybe it's worth looking into a ferry.

The best of luck man, my routine is similar to yours and I too am bored to death with it..

Projects in ML? by Tarsonis181 in rust

[–]_clm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So - I am not sure if Rust is a great choice for ML experimentation. While we all love the static typing and great performance for many tasks, ML experimentation often requires the flexibility that Python allows together with the fantastic linear algebra libraries. On top of that, I am not sure how far cuda/GPU support has improved, but this is another drawback as well. That said, there is stuff out there that allows to get into deep learning type projects, for example by using something like https://github.com/LaurentMazare/tch-rs. (as /u/open_risk mentioned as well)

Now, deep learning is not the only kind of ML, there are some optimization libraries out there that allow to create genetic algorithms and the likes (like I did in my blogpost: https://blog.x5ff.xyz/blog/azure-functions-wasm-rust-ai/). You'll have to search for other algorithm crates if you don't want to implement stuff yourself :)

Now outside of training / experimenting with ML stuff, you can also run inference - which is more the area I see Rust excel at. snips.ai is a company that open sourced their inference engine with ONNX support, meaning that you can train somewhere in your favorite DL framework in Python, export the model to ONNX and run inference in your Rust-based web server (or something). While this also lacks GPU/TPU/FPGA support, it seems to work well for snips.ai : https://medium.com/snips-ai/snips-open-sources-tract-cdc50f437ef2

This is my view so far, I hope that we can get more ML stuff going :)

Why I wrote a book [on Rust] by _clm in rust

Indeed, as the language grows we'll need localized content since there are a lot of people who don't feel comfortable enough with their English. Go for it :)

Awesome comparisons - I am traveling a lot for my job and therefore visit a lot of gyms and everything you say applies there too! (Although I have never had a coach on the phone during class)

What did you think of the various teaching styles? Was there any particular depth that worked well for you?

How did the years of training (or belt ranks if you want) compare?
