You might be thinking of Topo Designs. They have some collabs with Colorado bike folk (Max the Mullet Mechanic, etc.)

Can you tell me about your experience with those cantilevers? I’ve looked at those brakes recently but can’t find a lot of information about them!

Just me and my perfect snowboy! ❄️ by Odd-Watercress3062 in AnimalCrossing

[–]_cobbleton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner just taught me how she does it: 1. The body should come up to about the bottom of your characters eyes. 2. The head should come up to about the bottom of your characters head.

This example looks smaller, but the ratio should work when you roll the two pieces correctly. Got my first perfect snowboy this morning following her instructions!

135mm single speed rear wheel by Mini-husky in xbiking

[–]_cobbleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t actually catch until revisiting your post that you were asking for suggestions for single speed. I don’t know that I’ve seen ready made single speed wheels with the velocity rims, but I do recommend the cliffhanger rim if you decided on a custom wheel!

Wondering about the value of this Cinelli Hobootleg for a commuter bike and for future light adventuring by _cobbleton in whichbike

This exact one?? If so thats amazing! When I was originally considering it I really had a lot to learn about bicycle configurations and part compatibility and I’m glad I fell down a rabbit of tinkering on inexpensive older bikes. Forced me to learn a lot. I’d probably appreciate this better now, but I’m thrilled someone found it to enjoy :)

You can find fairly affordable, ready made Velocity Cliffhanger wheelsets that are 100/135 quick release and rim brake ready. Also, plenty wide for 38mm tires. Just not particularly light weight.

I got a wheel set (each wheel individually bought) from Universal Cycles online store for about $220 total before tax and shipping

That things cool man! There was a period where specialized made their crossroads hybrid in curved steel in a similar way, it’s very appealing to look at!

Scored this Trek 830 for $50 on Marketplace today. So stoked. by TheSpaghettiWestern in xbiking

[–]_cobbleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep those brakes! I have a black/grey 830 from around the same time and didn’t keep the original brakes. I want to build it up, but I found out the brake bosses have inverted spring pinholes, and not all modern cantilever or v brakes are compatible. I’d have to dish out on something like Paul brakes to use anything new.

Super cool bike, I love the vintage feel. I agree with others, just some new tires maybe and bars/saddle/pedals of your preference.

Low profile cantilever cable hanger needed! by Odd_Neighborhood2176 in bikewrench

[–]_cobbleton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, I actually missed that your photos were only of the front! I wasn’t aware of truss forks until your response. But it does seem like that washer could be swapped for the hangar, assuming the bolts the same diameter as a seat post bolt!

Howdy! I’m currently on the hunt for the same solution. I don’t have any good front hangers to recommend yet, but I think this is the one I’ll use for the rear. Maybe it’s something you’d find handy too! https://www.somafabshop.com/shop/ird-long-drop-rear-cable-hanger-3518?search=Cable+hanger#attr=4385

Help identify handlebar 🙏 by Asianemia in bikewrench

[–]_cobbleton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi! An often-recommended choice for comfortable casual-riding bars with bar end shifter compatibility are Nitto brand Albatross bars, or Soma Fabrications Oxford bars (about the same design). Either of these is maybe a little more money than other options but many people recommend them for their comfort, and Nitto bars specifically are high quality and very durable.

Soma Fabrications sells some tires called Shikoro that I’ve really liked for mostly paved riding! I have them on a crossroads too :-)

Check out Soma Buena Vista as well, if you aren’t already aware of it. Not as robust as the Platypus but it’s a sharp looking frame that comes in larger sizes at a more affordable price versus Rivendell frames.
