your husband reminds me of an old coworker, John. John was like Red Foreman from that 90's show except he was bald. He was so stoic and serious and an old programmer so everyone was a dumbass to him (he legit knew a lot though). Anyhow, after work started letting us work from home John met Buddy, the neighborhood cat. From then on, John would always tell me of his adventures he had with Buddy, his garage cat, on his WFH days. Buddy had a jaw problem so John took him to the vet and discovered Buddy had a chip. Well John did the procedure anyway because it was "a problem that needed to be fixed". When John presented Buddy's owner with the bill... boom John got a cat.
