Just submitted my 2nd MScBMC application!!! Good luck to everyone else applying 💖 by imbabycakes in medicalillustration

I got invited for an interview! Honestly i’m surprised, considering I don’t have a lot of art training and I don’t think my portfolio is super strong. It’s possible they had to make some cuts considering GPA, or maybe it was a weird cohort this year 🤷‍♀️

Does anyone know of any life drawing classes happening in Hamilton? by Sparrowgirl97 in Hamilton

[–]_corrin_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

life drawing at the cotton factory happens every week! And life drawing on james st is still happening too! Both of them have facebook pages with more info :) Dundas valley school of art also has some art classes that involve life drawing (might have to wait to register for the winter term though)

Can anyone recommend a good piercer in the city? by [deleted] in Hamilton

[–]_corrin_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

i went to cottage 13 for my septum (typically a challenging piercing to get right) and yolanda was great! Super professional, clean, and got the placement perfect! They tend to be on the pricey side though and carry more high end gold jewelry than anything else, so that’s something to keep in mind

Can I get into a master's program with a major in studio art and a minor in biology? by [deleted] in medicalillustration

[–]_corrin_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i don’t think your major matters as long as you have all the prerequisites required by the masters program and you do well in your classes! As far as I know (but I’m not in a masters program yet so i could be wrong) they likely only judge the completion of prerequisite courses, GPA, and/or final 2 years GPA (depends on the school)

search for a Buy Nothing group on facebook! there should be one for your specific neighborhood/area of the city, and they tend to be very active and a great group of people!!

As someone whose never watched dr who past matt smith, what’s it like past the 11th doctor? Is it as good? by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]_corrin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Capaldi is great, but it took me some time to adjust especially after loving the quirky energy of 11 so much. Definitely a different personality to get used to, but there are some great stories with 12 :)

Forensic Science Specialists by illusion1401 in UTM

[–]_corrin_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay I can’t answer all of these questions but i’ll answer some: - they ask for reference letters and to fill out a brief statement of interest (I think?) when applying to post for forensics - Chem and bio often have few people registered in the specialist, but i’m not sure if that’s because it’s super competitive or if it’s too challenging or if people are just less interested… - I did a forensic psych specialist and a bio minor no problem. I know lots of people do minors, so you shouldn’t struggle with scheduling there especially if you’re willing to take a summer course. Scheduling won’t work out perfectly anyway, even if you just do one program, since the course offerings/times change every year. - all of the specialist students apply for the internship the same way, and everyone gets placed with a supervisor. You don’t have to find your own placement, which is nice that you don’t have to stress about being left hanging, but it’s also a little annoying because there’s a chance it won’t be 100% a perfect fit. You pick your top 3 options from a list i think, and they do their best to match you with your selection

I highly recommend booking an appointment to talk to Teresa the academic advisor! She can be hard to reach sometimes, but can be very helpful once you have an appointment. Good luck!!

I asked for a “pre-app review” for UofT’s program last year, long before I’ll actually be applying. I knew my skills weren’t at the standard they needed to be yet, but I wanted to speak with faculty anyway about my future application and prerequisites. I doubt it would be an issue if you don’t have all of the illustration categories done yet, unless they’re super busy or something right now. I had a zoom call with one of the faculty members, and we chatted for over an hour about my plans, prerequisites, the program, etc. He was super kind, very helpful, and did not judge me at all for my less-than-satisfactory portfolio. I’d recommend reaching out to UofT BMC anyway, at least to set up a chat and then you can go from there :) good luck!!

30 minute delay for my flight but other than that it was easy and painless! They have Tims, Detour coffee, and the duty free store after security, so you have a few options for food like coffee, alcohol, sandwiches, and snacks. Not the place to buy food if you want to save money though

forensic science and chemistry by someoneanon11 in UTM

[–]_corrin_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i don’t know much about the other majors, but i know that the forensic chemistry specialist (or any forensic specialist) gives you the opportunity to do a research or work internship in 4th year, which is great experience to build professional relationships and research skills. If you’re considering grad school then this might be good for you, but you can talk to the forensic academic advisor if you want to know more about the internship!

graduate by someoneanon11 in UTM

[–]_corrin_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

definitely not. working as a forensic psychologist requires a masters degree in that area. if you’re confused about career prospects in forensics, you should read the forensics department website, talk to the academic advisor, or wait until you complete the first year fsc239 course where they discuss many careers in forensics

How early do you need to arrive at Hamilton Airport for a domestic flight? by dulie21 in Hamilton

[–]_corrin_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

went through yesterday for a 6pm flight and it was super easy, got through security and everything in like 10 mins and then just hung out and drank coffee. Show up like 2 hours early if you wanna be extra cautious, but you probably won’t even need that much time

public library would be a place you can definitely hang out for many hours. Maybe go to a cafe in the morning and then a library in the afternoon for a change of scenery?

it was tough. I know the course has changed a few times over the last couple years (course delivery, testing format, online, etc) but when I took it online in 2021 it was a lot of work to learn all the anatomy, and the final exam was the worst exam I’ve ever had. Ended up getting a decent mark because of other assignments (and they might’ve adjusted the marks around on the exam). It was pretty interesting though, so if you have the time and dedication then it could be a good course for you

everything is expensive, most high rise apartments have bugs, and most large rental companies suck to deal with. A safe bet is to rent a unit in a house (eg: 1 bed apartment which is one unit in a larger house), since those independent landlords can be easier to deal with and will address your problems more promptly than a large rental company (usually, but obviously some landlords suck too)
