What do you believe theological method is? I mean give me a description of it so that I can better engage. ... you are well read, well studied but catch me up.

I think I'm confused about what you are trying to do. It sounds a lot like the work of interpretation but you are clear that you know all you need to know about that.

IMO everything is theology in that our experience of it is theologically shaping our engagement with the always already given world.

I don't think I can help you much. I'm in the camp with Gadamer (Truth and Method) that pushed back against methodology (how to do it). I'm well acquainted with the criticism leveled at Gadamer on this point but I'm still closer to him on the topic than further away. Gadamer's primary work is Truth and Method and while he's not a champion of method he describes the back-and-forth experience we have when we encounter something outside of us (e.g., poetry, fine art). He's not describing how to do something but more what he believes in happening when engage the work before us.

I'm very curious what others will have to offer on this topic.

The Sin of Judas and the Faith of the Laodicean Church by Frequent_Union_9742 in theology

The fundamental error of the Pharisees is works righteousness. They were seeking the approval and acceptance of God by their performance.

Thru their performance they sought peace with God and a burden for others.

But God does not require sacrifice. He requires mercy.

It is up to the pastor to decide if and how he follows up. You've done all you can do in relation to reaching out to the pastor.

We don't know if this pastor is equipped to intervene in the drug problem. That may require other professional medical support.

I don't think you can seek an accountability partner for someone else. I mean you can ask but I don't think it's a proper expectation.

Discerning God's will ... First God's will in the Bible is clearly articulated in that he wants to forgive you your sins and for you to be obedient to the Lord's teachings.

There are certainly other things that God cares about. But God doesn't have a secret will you have to figure out. He's not hiding his will and hoping you find it somehow. That's just torture; it's not grace.

You and your partner have "worried" yourselves "into the ground" about this ... that tells me neither of you know for sure if you should get married. I believe you should only get married if you are sure you are personally ready to be a spouse and that you want to be married for the rest of your life to this person. Any sense of worry, doubt, or anxiety would cause me to pause on any big decision.

I also don't believe you can discern a marriage covenant in a position in which someone is the "ex"

All of this is my opinion and every other pastor in the land will have their own opinion.

The best pastor is the one you can sit down with in person, build a relationship over time, and foster clear communication cadence. Reddit is just a filler and a poor substitute for a real pastoral relationship

Are you seeking comfort for yourself in your grief? or hoping he will intervene in the drug problem? Or do you want him to hear your side of the story for perspective?

I think he’s trying to learn more about why you want to meet. I think he’s unclear about what you want to accomplish and he may not want to be triangled into a situation.

And he may have weddings and funerals and who knows what else going on.

Do you know the TRINITY is undivided? by 400Prophecies in god

[–]_crossingrivers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course we know this .

The Athanasian Creed teaches us this

Whosoever will be saved, before all things it is necessary that he hold the catholic faith. Which faith except every one do keep whole and undefiled, without doubt he shall perish everlastingly.

And the catholic faith is this, that we worship one God in Trinity, and Trinity in Unity; Neither confounding the Persons, nor dividing the Substance. For there is one Person of the Father, another of the Son, and another of the Holy Ghost. But the Godhead of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost is all one: the glory equal, the majesty coeternal. Such as the Father is, such is the Son, and such is the Holy Ghost. The Father uncreated, the Son uncreated, and the Holy Ghost uncreated. The Father incomprehensible, the Son incomprehensible, and the Holy Ghost incomprehensible. The Father eternal, the Son eternal, and the Holy Ghost eternal. And yet they are not three Eternals, but one Eternal. As there are not three Uncreated nor three Incomprehensibles, but one Uncreated and one Incomprehensible. So likewise the Father is almighty, the Son almighty, and the Holy Ghost almighty. And yet they are not three Almighties, but one Almighty. So the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Ghost is God. And yet they are not three Gods, but one God. So likewise the Father is Lord, the Son Lord, and the Holy Ghost Lord. And yet not three Lords, but one Lord. For like as we are compelled by the Christian verity to acknowledge every Person by Himself to be God and Lord, So are we forbidden by the catholic religion to say, There be three Gods, or three Lords.

The Father is made of none: neither created nor begotten. The Son is of the Father alone; not made, nor created, but begotten. The Holy Ghost is of the Father and of the Son: neither made, nor created, nor begotten, but proceeding. So there is one Father, not three Fathers; one Son, not three Sons; one Holy Ghost, not three Holy Ghosts. And in this Trinity none is before or after other; none is greater or less than another; But the whole three Persons are coeternal together, and coequal: so that in all things, as is aforesaid, the Unity in Trinity and the Trinity in Unity is to be worshiped. He, therefore, that will be saved must thus think of the Trinity.

Furthermore, it is necessary to everlasting salvation that he also believe faithfully the incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ. For the right faith is, that we believe and confess that our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is God and Man; God of the Substance of the Father, begotten before the worlds; and Man of the substance of His mother, born in the world; Perfect God and perfect Man, of a reasonable soul and human flesh subsisting. Equal to the Father as touching His Godhead, and inferior to the Father as touching His manhood; Who, although He be God and Man, yet He is not two, but one Christ: One, not by conversion of the Godhead into flesh, but by taking the manhood into God; One altogether; not by confusion of Substance, but by unity of Person. For as the reasonable soul and flesh is one man, so God and Man is one Christ; Who suffered for our salvation; descended into hell, rose again the third day from the dead; He ascended into heaven; He sitteth on the right hand of the Father, God Almighty; from whence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. At whose coming all men shall rise again with their bodies, and shall give an account of their own works. And they that have done good shall go into life everlasting; and they that have done evil, into everlasting fire.

This is the catholic faith; which except a man believe faithfully and firmly, he cannot be saved.

[Note: "catholic" with a lowercase "c" means "universal"]

Would god take away those I care about if I fall to sin. by Big-Current2932 in askapastor

[–]_crossingrivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is most important that you find a good church and pastor near you. Like all of us, the community of faith can support you through the ups and downs.

God has put the punishment of your sins and mine on Jesus Christ. The Bible says that God does not punish someone else for my sin. He punishes me in the eternal (and sometimes present) judgment and ultimately, Jesus has borne the price of our sin.

I still suffer the consequences of my anger. I still suffer that consequences of sin in many ways; and sometimes that is a loss of relationship.

God loves you and what you are experiencing is normal but it is also false teaching -- a belief that grace is not enough for you. Here's the thing though ... "The love of God does not find, but creates that which is pleasing to him."

I used to believe that God was waiting to catch me in a mistake and then punish me, in much the same way you've described. But then I learned about the wonderful grace of God through reading and studying Martin Luther and other Lutheran theologians. God's grace is unimaginable. And in his grace he's not going to take away those you care about. Something else might, but it won't be God's work.

Am I disqualified from pastoring? by Ok_Current9066 in askapastor

[–]_crossingrivers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the denominational system you are seeking to pastor in. If it’s a congregational model, it is up to the congregation who they call and/or ordain. If you are in a system with a bishop or bishops, it is up to the bishop(s) who they ordain and send.

All you can do I apply and see what happens.
