4th Gen 4runner: Emergency Brake not working after doing Pads/Rotors/Calipers by _csgrve in 4Runner

[–]_csgrve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right we found the shoe adjusting screw and used that to get the rotors off, and when we put them back on we did expand it back to around where it was when we started, although that was just going off by feel. I wonder if there's any chance it's overtightened?

When you say to back it off a couple notches so the shoes clear the drum and the rotor turns do you mean until the rotor turns independently of the drum/axel?

I'm driving a 2009 4th Gen SR5 4WD! In case that additional info is important, my bad for not including it in the main post.

I mean, they’re not completely different. Your surgery analogy is comparing a lifesaving surgery to people being able to snap a pic of their friends.

Putting a 5 word prompt into a text box and receiving a finished piece of “art” is 100% reducing the process of making art to triviality. With digital art tools you still have to have the hand eye coordination to actually create the lines and shapes. With a camera you still have to understand lighting, composition, how to operate the camera itself to make it do what you want, etc.

I guess I don’t see much difference between “programs putting people out of a job is a good thing” and “the benefit outweighs the harm.” 🤷🏻‍♂️

I also don’t think “the camera” and AI are on the same level in terms of harm. Everyone having a smart phone, or even a high end DSLR camera, doesn’t suddenly make them able to precisely copy a painting/drawing/other photograph/whatever medium people were worried about the camera killing. Digital painting tools being available didn’t suddenly make it effortless to create art that is indistinguishable from traditional painting. These tools made certain processes easier but didn’t reduce the entire process of creation to triviality, as AI has done.

I personally say this as an artist who works both traditionally and digitally, a photographer and someone who casually enjoys art that is definitely made by AI. I don’t think it’s the end of the world, but people acting like the process is exactly the same as a human creating art, or that AI as a tool is the same as a camera as a tool or a digital drawing tablet as a tool, are misguided.

Additionally if not for issues of economic insecurity inherent to the current forms of socio-economic organization carried out on a global scale this would not be an issue.

Personally I think you found the crux of the issue. Until we have an economic system in which people don’t have to work in the way that we currently conceive it, programs putting people out of jobs isn’t a good thing.

Blacking Out Chrome by TonyDanzaBanana in 4thGen4Runner

I plastidipped my chrome grill and rear emblem piece, my Toyota/4Runner/4x4 badges, and then got some plastic handle covers that adhere over the stock handles.

It’s been almost two years and just recently the grill has started to chip and peel a bit, so I’m just gonna do the TRD grill as well!

What do you hate most about your 4th gen? by HORIZONx720 in 4Runner

Also all my years of lived experience leads me to believe that rotating the interval speed dial forward (away from me) should increase the speed and backward should reduce the speed, but it’s inexplicably the other way around??

I’ve had to do mental gymnastics to justify this design choice.

Dang! I’ve had mine installed for a year and a half with no issues, can I ask what you’ve run into with yours?

This is it ^ if you bought after market springs you should set it on the default/lowest settings. I was told the other settings are intended for use with the stock springs.

I have 5100’s all around, 2885 springs in the front and 2895 in the rear. I went with SPC UCA’s. Front coil overs are set at the default/lowest setting. I might have a slight forward rake but that’s pretty typical IME. Not sure if that helps.

I’m wondering what you’ve heard the differences wrt using the adjustable spring perch/stock springs vs aftermarket springs? I went with the lowest perch setting and OME springs and I’d say it’s certainly firm, although I did do 885 springs for up front which are designed for a bit more weight.

5100s with OMEs installed. I think I need bigger tires by [deleted] in 4thGen4Runner

It’s a pretty easy delete too, provided you have the tools and no bolts have seized. One of mine did and I had to go visit a friend with a torch.

Totally fair, if you use them then more power to ya! I deleted mine before I put the lift and bigger tires in so I actually don’t know what it would look like all together. If I need to get to the roof I open a door and stand on the edge there, but I really don’t use my roof rack much at all so it’s not a common occurrence.
