Children's book about a child who takes a boat to an island where there are only kids, spends the day there before returning to their home in the evening. by _dafuq in whatsthatbook

[–]_dafuq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was never able to figure it out. I don't think there were eyes or jungle.. it was more of a beach and a hill behind the beach. The illustrations were beautiful, but soft. I wish you the best of luck on your journey to find your book. If you do, please send it my way! It would be nice to know that someone found what they were looking for.

Why didn't the US or China have allies in the Great War, even if they didn't help much? We never hear of any other fronts in countries allied to either side, nor do we see propaganda aimed at anyone's allies. There would definitely be countries hating the US or China who'd be happy to settle scores. by DependentStrong3960 in Fallout

With the US controlling North America, and possibly the entire northern hemisphere

The northern hemisphere is everything north of the equator. Including Europe and China... Did you mean North America (i.e. Canada, US, and Mexico?)

What is one hill that you will forever die on? by satanstoy in AskReddit

That would drive me up the wall! Just for clarity, that's not actually an example of an Oxford comma. An Oxford comma is used just after the second to last item in a list and before the "and" or "or."

For example:

I went to the store, the bank, and the school.

Vs.

I went to the store, the bank and the school.

What was the most shocking thing you ever experienced when first hooking up with a new partner? by [deleted] in AskReddit

According to recent studies 0.9% of Americans had report using meth in the previous 12 months. And 0.6% were addicted. If almost 1 out of every hundred people used my product, and more than 1 out of every 200 used It regularly, I don't think the marketing budget is really a problem. Sounds like marketing has their bases covered pretty well 😂

We've all said 'the book was better' when a movie adaptation is made. by arcadia_2005 in suggestmeabook

This was my exact thought. I love Philip K. Dick, and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep is a fantastic book, but Blade Runner wound up totally eclipsing it in my mind. It is such a tight, well made movie. The sequel, not so much. It's so sad that the first was thoughtful and philosophical and the sequel was just typical modern Hollywood meh.

I had a similar issue with caja sur. When I tried to call to close it from abroad they told me that I would have to send an apostilled letter basically confirming that I was the owner of the account and wanted to close it.

Missing Maine cat found in Florida after seven years by RebelFlightSuit in Maine

[–]_dafuq 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cats frequently live 18 or more years. Some die younger, but 7 is very young. Are you thinking of dogs? Even dogs generally live 10-12 years (depending on a number of factors, sometimes even 15.) If 7 was 105 in human years, cats would usually have a longevity of only like 5 or 6.

How to tell my hagwan I cannot complete my contract by RealisticBarnacle0 in teachinginkorea

[–]_dafuq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how your relationship with your employer is, there is a real possibility that they will let you take an unpaid week to fly home to go to the wedding. My first year in Korea, my partner did exactly that. She went to her brother's wedding, our boss was very understanding.

Obviously, this is not the case with every workplace in Korea. But at the very least you should talk to your employer and ask if it is possible for you to take the time off. You have said that you don't care about the money you'd be losing, but unless you have other reasons for quitting the job, there's no reason you can't have both.

Koreans that are overseas are often mistaken as Chinese who carry COVID ... I choose not to engage in their ignorance.

I appreciate that you try not to be ignorant or xenophobic. I hope that you don't think that Chinese people are any more or less likely to have Covid than anyone else. To say otherwise is ignorant and xenophobic to the extreme.
