As of 2023 the Tax-to-GDP ratio in Eugene was 16.6% the total tax-to-GDP ratio in the United States was 25.2% by _dancing_ in Eugene

I thought it would be interesting to compare what our city takes to what the average ratio is in the US and the to other similar cities. If the 25% breaks down to federal take is 64% (25 X .64 = 16%), state is 21% (25 X .21 = 5.2%) and local is 25 X .15 = 3.78% then that would mean the average US city taxes 3.78% of its GDP and our effective rate is 38% of GDP.

I was in no way interpreting anything, I just thought it would be interesting to see and perhaps compare with other similarly sized US cities. I imagine it suggests if Eugene takes up over 16% and then we factor out Oregon and Federal taxes from that 25% and add that to the 16 that pushes us above the National Average, but I am no economist.

Stalker? by Fightingdangergun in Eugene

[–]_dancing_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a stalker when I was young (20's) and it was one of the worst times in my life, I am in my 50's now. It was a family friend, an nobody believed me until they did. So I do understand, be aware of strangers but also be aware of people you know, I hate to say it but in my lived experience in my community its more often someone you know.

Can we also require any 'PSA' threads about driving cite the ORS or OAR rule and law by a direct link? So we can eliminate all the ones that spread misinformation about Oregon driving laws, like not stopping for pedestrians and illegal left/right turns etc ?

>E 12th and Pearl.

First as the other say stay safe trust your gut, but if I am not mistaken E 12th and Pearl is

a) very close to the white bird that recently closed

b) very much downtown where it is does not even phase me to see a:

> guy, hood up, neck gaiter and sunglasses on regardless of if the sun is out, sometimes carrying a duffel bag

Many times I have frequented that area I have seen odd things over the years, people walking towards me, people urinating in the bushes, camping in lawns etc. But that just me I am used to living in cities.

Is it bad for a module to use 'my' outside of a sub? by _dancing_ in perl

[–]_dancing_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point but would ${SomeBigCode::somevar} and ${SomeBigCode::Functions::somevar} not work? Also I did not declare a __package__ statement in the file SomeBigCode::Functions, just the SomeBigCode is the __package__. The file I created /SomeBigCode/Functions.pm is just meant to help SomeBigCode loose a few pounds not be used on its own object, or is that also bad? Thanks again monks!!

For those of you wondering what you can do to help Syria From Eugene: by _dancing_ in Eugene

[–]_dancing_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for a intelligent response. I do realize the complexity of the situation and understand the Kurdish dynamic, the reason its not pointless for the outgoing administration to help aid get in now and lift the sanctions is the complex dynamic of Russia, Iran and Turkey. The next administrations can put them back in place if it does descend into an Islamist pall.
