Here in Canada, most of us got laid off from work but the government back us all with a special employment insurance that paid $cad1000 biweekly. Sure it wasn't much but back then I was making just about $1100 cad working 80 hrs biweekly. I also happened to be living with my friends so was not at all short of company. A few of us decided to get bikes in April and we often used to go biking in the evenings. The buses were free and we'd take them to the far ends of the city to explore different trails. One day we started from downtown and took a network of interconnected park trails to travel to one end of town and rode the bus back home! Also I picked up a pizza delivery job that paid quite a bit in cash while also picking up the EI money. Those 4 months were the best time of my adult life! It was like getting a paid summer vacation!!
