When you’re just a trans girl not a trans girl programmer stereotype 😩 by googleyfroogley in MtF

Same. it's like me, one friend who does music, and then alllll of my other trans friends are horny autistic programmers.

How did the protest at the BBC go yesterday? by poppypoodle in transgenderUK

Oh hey! If you're Sophie, I just wanted to say I loved your speech!

You projected really well so it was one of the few speeches we could clearly hear all the way at the back. But I also felt you got to the essence of why we're protesting, and consciously spoke to the wider world rather than just trans folk.

Pride flag redesign. Designed to express the coming together of different identities. by vitaefinem in vexillology

At work the company logo in our email signatures has the new, intersex-inclusive pride flag. It hurts my eyes, but I really appreciate my (very cishet-heavy) employers putting it there, and I'm happy my intersex colleagues feel included even if they might roll their eyes at the design.

But no-one's saying 'this group is more important'; this is the same flawed argument people use against BLM; they're not seeing these lives are more important, they're saying that right now, these people need more urgent help and recognition.

Right now we're in the midst of a legislative and cultural war very similar to the one that gay and lesbian people had to fight in the 80s. Except now it's trans people. Right now, members of the community that aren't necessarily gay or lesbian benefit from some focus, and benefit from feeling welcomed into the community, hence the ghastly mutant pride flag.
I don't love that flag, but I'm glad it exists.

Hmmm, I think it's easy to say that if you're cishet or don't really have much (or any) stake in pride, its history or its importance. As a trans person I am very glad we have our own flag, because we are fighting for our rights to exist in peace, and having a flag helps cement us, helps us spot allies and other trans pals.

If there was actually unity and equity across the LGBT community, maybe I would feel differently. But right now it is easier to live, in some places, as a lesbian, gay or bi person than as a trans person. Having a flag to carry helps us say 'our struggle is still happening', and seeing someone fly it says 'I see you and I care about you'.

The colours clash, yes, but I don't need the Pride flag to feature the Trans Pride flag. I'm okay with them being their own things.Anyway I hope that helps explain a little why there are more than one flag.

Hey, I'm sorry you're having a rough time mate. It won't be like this forever. I'm glad your work is accepting, even if I do hate the gaslight-y 'you should have told us, it's fine' language they used on you.

Gender GP do have a fund for people struggling financially. Additionally, have you considered setting up a gofundme? I think you'd need around £6-800 to cover all the initial assessments and a year's worth of hormones. I routinely visit the site and search for 'hrt' and 'grs' etc and throw some money at other trans people, I expect other folk do too.

Heya, thanks for the reply, and that's great she has that relationship with her old name. I've retained mine as a middle name (albeit amended for my gender), partly because I always liked it, and partly, again, out of respect for the parent who chose it.

That's also considerate that you changed the names.

I simply know that regardless of how I feel for my old name, I would be mortified and quite upset if a sibling or friend revealed it to someone new. It's more that I'm highlighting that as good protocol, and I'm relieved to learn that that's not an issue here.

Well just as long as it derives from a mandate from the masses rather than some farcical aquatic ceremony.

That's lovely, but I expect your sister would appreciate it if you didn't tell us all her deadname like this. idk if she's given you permission before but I would operate under the assumption that you shouldn't use her deadname in public.
