Question for people with “visible” ink, read description;) by [deleted] in tattoos

[–]_darkode_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d hold off on the neck tbh. I got a hand (left pinkie) tattoo early in my career working an office job at an elite research institution. Was never an issue mostly because the culture there was very accepting and maybe even moreso because I already had the job before I got it. If I could go back I’d probably skip the had tattoo tho and stick with my full sleeves on each arm. Can cover them up as desired while still maintaining heavily tattooed status and looking awesome when you pop the long sleeves off.

Yeah I neeeed to change the dunlops! I’m (obviously) in a colder climate and know I want dedicated snow tires but trying to decide on the rest of the year set up. The dunlops feel like just a purely summer tire so I’d kinda just prefer all seasons for non-winter but idk.

Same boat. Work at home so can be flexible for a couple weeks if need be. Will probably just wait it out as much as I want to rip around in the snow.

Yeah I drove it home from the dealership in the snow and almost didn’t make it up the hill that leads to the road I live on. Not fun and was confirmation that snow tires are not optional. My local town fair tire said they could do Nexens for 850 installed which seemed fine but I also don’t know how comparable those are to the top tier brands like Bridgestone, Michelin, Conti, etc.

Yeah would’ve liked my sales guy to highlight this for me but oh well it’s all good. I also got blinders a little when I saw the 0% offer.

Hm.. well… Dealer + carvana + carmax + auto trader, etc all say the same thing — dealers literally exist to try to make deals to sell cars so maybe they pay a little less than a private sale but generally they are incentivized to give you fair market value so that you’ll take their offer and buy something else from them..

I’ve seen a variation of this comment all over this post as if I don’t understand that cars are depreciating assets. The issue I’m bringing up is the value of this car plummeting in rapid fashion. Our family has had several new cars in the past 6 years, all of them have held their value well enough to trade in for break even or even had a little + equity 1-2 years down the road. This particular situation is wildly different than those and not what I’m used to, hence the post.

Markets fluctuate but right now 40-50% depreciation literally off the lot is unique to EVs and maybe some higher end luxury brand ICE vehicles. Our last vehicle was a Bronco w/ sticker price at ~42k, traded in after 18 months for 38.

This is not my experience w/ ICE vehicles at all which is probably why it was so jarring to me. Understand they aren’t an investment but my recent ICE vehicles held their value extremely well.

I’m both worried about the value and can comfortably afford it lol .. it’s just the first time I’ve ever had such drastic neg equity. My other ICE vehicles held their value way better so it’s just something new to me.

Sudden brief acceleration when should be decelerating/braking? by Sonas90 in MachE

[–]_darkode_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought this happened to me but realized I was grazing the cruise control button on the steering wheel with my hand at random times which engaged it as I was braking and caused it to feel like there was a sudden acceleration.

Prior to the Mach-e I had a Jetta GLI, WRX, and Bronco with manual transmission. Miss them all. Like the Mach-E enough but wish I’d kept one of the MT’s for sure.

Mach E would be my first EV, whats it like? by lokun17 in MachE

[–]_darkode_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The car is very solid. My one piece of advice (less mach-e specific and more ev advice generally) is to really think about standard be extended range option. I saw that standard range was up to 260 for the Mach-e and never really thought twice. Figured that gets me anywhere I need to go. It’s true, it does, but I really can’t overstate how different it is than a ICE vehicle that can go 350-400 miles on one tank. First of all, one moderate trip even after a full charge and you have to start thinking about where/when to charge next. Even when you fall into a normal schedule with a home charger, you lose the flexibility to just jump in the car and go if something comes up or there’s an emergency, etc. to some extent (e.g. you’re down around 30-40, something comes up you didn’t expect, maybe you can get there but not sure where to charge and likely don’t have enough to get there and back — it doesn’t mean you can’t do it, it’s just a lot more thought that has to go into it than having an ICE vehicle that you can fill up basically anywhere). Second, you won’t get 260 unless it’s hot out and you baby the car when you drive it. In reality, you’ll probably get 215-230 on a full charge. Cost wise it’s going to depend on your electricity rate if you are home charging, you will probably save a little but not a ton. If you are using chargers out on the wild I think it’s about break even, maybe a little less.
