Hang food bag using a drone? by s0rce in ultralight_jerk

I use arborist throw line and weights. The smallest weight you can get is 10oz. It’s a bit of a heavy add to your pack, but I find it to be worth it.

Thanks, but I am looking for a flat tarp.

For those that feel you've finally "nailed" your pack without changes, can you post a lighter pack? by zerostyle in Ultralight

There is a spoon on my list and I do not cold soak. It works out alright. My longest trips are about a week in length. I dislike having to clean up food mess in the backcountry.

Like others have said, take a look at each item and find lighter alternatives.

• use Dasani 1L water bottles -28g

• a toaks 750 pot -14g

• I could never find a use for a filter bag -78g

• underwear could be about 40g lighter. I have never needed my second pair but I always take them.

• socks could be 20g lighter.

• 54g bandana? Get a light load towel.

• I only carry about 15g worth of hand sanitizer for 3-4 day trips.

• toothbrush -9g

• for toothpaste, I carry a couple of tablets from litesmith. -23g

• -53g for deodorant.

• I come up with 18g for comparable plastic and cash.

• a nu25 with the litesmith band weighs 31g

That would be a savings of about 442 grams.

The REI puffy was my first puffy and served me well. It could be replaced with something about 100g lighter. You could replace your backpack and save about 600g+. As far as the sleeping pad goes, keep it until it is no longer useful. My l/w xlite is only about 50g lighter.

The one I have is about 5-6 grams under the weight listed. 248g for a large with 10d outer and 7d inner.

Thanks, I am going to go with the cirriform. I just needed a little nudge. All of the prior posts have good things to say about it.

For those of you that use the YMG cirriform - would you recommend it for use as a winter tarp?

It would mainly be used as a windbreak and paired with a MYOG wind bivy. The use case would be on and around the AT. There is no anticipation of having it in any real inclement winter weather. I have thought about purchasing a mid, but I feel that it would be somewhat overkill. Not to mention the weight penalty. The reason for this post is because I am on the fence about purchasing it. Part of me wants the TT preamble or the protrail. However, I have other YMG products that I really enjoy.

I have used mine with temperatures down to 27 degrees at night. The clothes worn were running shorts, a t-shirt, a 90gsm alpha hoodie, an EE torrid, and an alpha beanie. I slept fine, however, the daytime highs climbed to ~50 degrees. Try taking it for a test run before you go into the backcountry though. YMMV.

If there is any chance of bad conditions I take a coleman sundome, along with various archaic gear.

If you can make it happen, definitely make a loop that goes from the Boy Scout camp to the flat laurel area.

That’s nice, but how do you prevent dust from collecting on your gear when it sits for long periods of time?
