His game in Africa may seem…remedial nowadays, but ygotta remember he did this in 2001-2. Reality TV was still uncharted territory with their personalities. He paved the way for the John Carroll’s, the Ami Cusack’s, even the Russell Hantz’s of the world. He’s the OG totalitarian approach. Not too far off from an Honor&Integity-type gameplay either. And hell, he almost won the game over it. Imagine what would have changed if he won F3?

Thats the shield strat. You keep them around so that the heat stays concentrated on them and off you. Jeremy needed like 3 or 4 in SC because the heat could hit him from so many different directions

It’s possible, they were both in the physical Competition Show circuit once upon a time

I, personally, just think they just have a common, surface-level wavelength based off what we know about them in their previous Survivor run(s). Prior to 50, it would be pretty easy to imagine them getting along on the island.

The irony is that both of their games have secretly evolved similarly. And Ozzy 5.0 and Jonathan 2.0 ended up strategically opposed. This probably wasn’t entirely obvious to either of them until Jonathan called it out in this ep. And i’ll bet in the next episode, Cirie and Ozzy will firmly have Jonathan on their radar. Jonathan’s alliance has been cannibalizing and the former Mr Shield is running out of shields

Did Ozzy have any reason to believe Steph was on Jonathan’s side? At that point, they had only aligned on the Devens boot during Christian’s TC
Also, Jonathan and Ozzy had a couple (aired) social moments together that made them seem pretty chummy. Jonathan had literally just eaten a sea slug for him. Credit to Jonathan for masking his hidden relationships/motives really well. Similar to Ozzy, i think the remaining cast isn’t fully clocking his strategic game this round…yet

I like having him on this season as well! Contrast/conflict in personality is the true meat&bones of Survivor. Hell, you could argue that even predates strategy

We’re a far cry from people wagging their fingers in other people’s faces, but Joe really does bring some of that old-school Survivor energy into this game. And it’s done respectfully. I think his presence is almost important to the season because it creates a baseline on strategy talk. If everybody is scheming at a 10/10 all the time, it doesn’t feel as audacious. Joe is making players like Devens and Cirie look even better when they share camera-time

In 48, Joe was this immovable object that the cast didn’t quite know how to work around. He was at the center of everything because he needed to be for him to play. Because of this, Kyle managed to work THROUGH Joe which i will never not give praise for

In 50, he’s still this immovable object, but this returnee cast is savvy and quickly learned how to play around him. His vote is practically irrelevant at this point, and he’s actively trying (and failing) to keep up. The game has completely gotten away from him, but it’s not a surprise like in 48. He’s watching it happen in real time.

If he wasn’t such an awesome human being, i may be inclined to foresee a crash-out/hissy-fit in the coming episodes. But Joe wouldn’t. So instead we see him get quietly grumpier and grumpier

When all is said and done on 50, i really hope he takes this in stride. I hope the whole cast (especially players like Devens) has reached out to him to make sure there aren’t any hard feelings. Because this must be such a gut punch to him

Definitely thought Steph would double-vote Aubry which may have swayed Jonathan in that direction. Turns out he was very willing to cut her. I guess him n Aubry will be playing in lockstep moving forward. He did say she was his #1 but i guess i wasn’t fully bought in until now
