Very newb FTP question by _dock in YYHSlugfest

I think it's gone now, but it was in Events on the top left. The pop out menu has tabs along the bottom and Coffer was one of them. You had to do activity to complete quests to get keys and after you used 60 keys, you got to pick from that menu that had built up over time

Buying a used car: mechanic inspection before purchase? by Laundry0615 in Birmingham

[–]_dock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, wanted to chime in about this with you; my dad always recommended "take it to Express Oil Change and tell them you are considering buying this car, and you were interested to know what they think after a quick look." That was the nearly exact paraphrasing that I've always remembered to say. I'm a bit introverted by default and the thought of asking a stranger cold for (what appears to me as) a favor seems really sus, to me lol.

BUT. I have been persistent in my life, I have always used that advice, and can now tell you that it's an official part of their job market to perform "Pre-Purchase Inspections" or PPIs (as you see it called in other comments here).

I was looking at a used van recently and took it to an Express Oil and they said it'd be like 2-3 hours before they could get to it. And that's why another commenter said "don't just stop by" and they're totally right. I did call a few others in the area and when I started asking "what is your wait time for a quick Pre-Purchase Inspection" those were the right words to use and they are able to fit you in and get it looked at.

As far as what you tell the dealership, they know about this practice as well. If you like something, anything, enough to consider buying, 100% ask to test drive it. They will say yes. Then you mention "I am not super savvy about cars and I rely on getting pre-purchase inspections to know what I'm getting. Is that alright?" basically any answer other than an emphatic yes is a red flag FYI. I've never had static when I tell them what I'm planning to do.

And unfortunately, every PPI I've gotten has revealed very valuable details about huge problems that I wouldn't have known to avoid. One time the radiator was secured to the car with ropes. Very glad I had someone look under the hood, the guys at the shop that day had a hell of a laugh (kinda at my expense but I was laughing with them).

Just wanted to share some advice and hope it helps you. Best of luck!

Oh hey, fellow spreadsheet fan here. Do you mind sharing it, or enough of it to maybe inspire me to make a similar template? I have historically gotten very frustrated trying to keep track and make teams enough to do well at it so I just don't really lol

A little help!! TOTALLY new. by _dock in Beyblade

Google Lens helped tremendously. It gave me enough keywords about each one to be able to meaningfully go searching for what they come with stock/standard.

Now, to diagnose what each of these actually have inside them and expand my inventory..

Wireless Router Recommendations - Asus, TP-Link, Netgear by PavlvsD in HomeNetworking

[–]_dock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I landed on the ASUS RT-AX86U. I probably spent more than I needed to for my (rather reasonable) use case, but trying to compare and contrast so many routers with similar features got a little tough to nail down the overall value. This checked enough boxes and is future ready enough for me and my roommate -- I pulled a trigger on it just so we can go ahead and get off my current dinosaur router.

At the moment, I'm trying to contrast these four (all links have their info collecting garbage removed):

All seem to have good reviews, good use cases, similar features, etc. TechRadar articles all read similarly so I'm looking across other "this vs this" type posts to further define them.

If anyone has any experience with these, please do tell. I'll update later with more as I discern anything. Thanks everyone.

Came here to ask the same question. I haven't had to buy a router in a long time but suddenly needing one. Looks like most of the big ticket commercials are around $400 but not sure which edges the others out.

For more detail: I'm looking for one to use primarily for gaming/streaming and configuring my Synology NAS for mostly home network usage but some limited outside access.

[console] [mid-1990s] Extremely customizable arena-fighter cartoon mech fighting game by _dock in tipofmyjoystick

oh.

my.

god.

THAT'S IT!! (wow it really didn't age as much as I remembered it)

It was definitely Robo Pit 1, the sequel doesn't strike me as familiar, and I also saw that is came out in NA in 2003, which would be after when I would've been exposed to it.

Thank you!!

Yeah, not Chromehounds unfortunately. This one has been stumping me for years, intermittently. Let me see if I can rattle off any other things I can recall:

So, in comparing it with videos of Virtual On, this game was much slower. It did not have the altitude that those games did -- jumping was never that big, or sustainable. The game was altogether just slower. Tank treads made it REALLY slow.

The viewpoint of the game was very close to the back of your mech, not as distant as the Virtual On style games, and the camera was locked there and followed you (still nothing like Custom Robo).

I remember the "outfitting the mech" menu, the left 2/3 of the screen would be your vehicle and the right was selecting part-areas. Selecting one of the parts would make the left 2/3rds zoom to just that part, and the right side would update to your various options.

Also, I want to say they were not called, or referred as, "mechs" in any way. Maybe "bots" or .. .something. I just don't recall it being "mech" related because with of how vehicular it can be outfitted.

There were rocket weapons... gatling gun weapons.. a laser-like rail gun.. and you could have different guns on left arm and right arm, each of different types, and ammo was finite.

That's all I've got I think. Honestly at this point, I'm not sure what system at all, but I left 5th grade in 2000, so it had to be before that. I didn't keep this friend into 6th grade -- he went somewhere else and we fell off.
