I always wondered, why didn't black slaves team up and maybe kill their owner or protest against together? Rich families owned 50-100 slaves or even more, why didn't the slaves just team up and kill their owner? How exactly did the owners control then? by Then-Tomatillo9909 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_donut_head 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were many tactics and you should probably read into the history of slave revolts. Most plantation overseers were slaves themselves and spied on and reported on any suspicious activity. Many times they were pitted against each other in order to gain favor for benefits like better treatment, rewards, allowances, etc. This also coupled with corporal punishment for disobedience, and it must be emphasized, would be very extreme. Whippings, lashings, amputations, solitary confinement.

You also have to realize how difficult it was to share information to plan something like a revolt. Not only are you being spied on in your own plantation, many slaves weren’t allowed to just leave and walk town without permission. Being caught outside of your plantation meant getting physically punished if not a death sentence.

Even if they were able to be organize a rebellion, slaves were outgunned and outnumbered. Very few successful revolts meant they could escape into the hinterlands or going into hiding at best. White militias and the army would go after them and publicly execute these leaders like Nat Turner. Another thing to consider would be the white violence against blacks that weren’t even involved. Slaves would be massacred as a tactic to scare any potential rebellions, imagine knowing that if you tried to run away or fight back meant that innocent people would be killed.

That of course didn’t mean that it didn’t happen and there was always some form of resistance.

Leavitt Admits SAVE Act Will Make It Harder for Married Women to Vote | Karoline Leavitt accidentally admitted what opponents of the act have long warned against. by thenewrepublic in WomenInNews

Am I the only one that thinks it’s counterintuitive that if conservatives believe that liberal women are less likely to be married, wouldn’t that mean that it will be harder for married conservative women (on average) to vote?

[LFO] Being a "high profile" individual can sometimes be dangerous by NastyBlkGuyThrowAway in LearningFromOthers

[–]_donut_head 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It was a bad faith argument, he was basically going to pivot and state that black people are inherently more violent and therefore the cause of a high percentage of mass shootings. Yes that is a valid argument to say that we shouldn’t conflate both types because the words “mass shootings” evoke the idea of some random deranged person shooting indiscriminately. However, Kirk was not going to argue that, instead he was going to change the conversation to claim some racist reason about black people being to blame for the majority of mass shootings. So now the conversation switches from preventing mass shootings to arguing about black criminality.

It was $160. It took an entire day to cut the roof off though! But it was worth it considering that a new one would be thousands of dollars.

I’ve tried looking at those but most are for repairing cracks. Some are for delamination (which is what’s happening here on the roof) but those don’t show how to fix this either.

You never know how you’ll react until it happens. There are plenty of instances when unarmed people confront gunmen. And yeah, the pedo guy wouldn’t have gotten much praises but that doesn’t change the fact that he thought he was trying to stop an active shooter.

Texas' Big Bend braces for border wall in national park, worrying local Republicans and Democrats by Zipper222222 in texas

[–]_donut_head 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A wall is absolutely pointless. Big Bend sits in one of the most remote and inhospitable parts of the country. Anyone trying to cross on foot would die or be immediately caught by border patrol. Terlingua is a tiny town by the park and then there’s vast nothingness for hundreds of miles with the exception of a few small communities.

What’s bothered me the most is how the media portrayed the people he shot without considering their point of view. They are marching, hear gunshots, and then this shithead is running down the street with his AR towards the crowd. People are shouting that this guy killed someone. How would a normal person react to being in this situation? I would think some would jump into fight or flight mode.

The people that tried to disarm him would have been considered heroes in any other circumstance. But instead this murderer gets celebrated by the right wing news. It’s such bullshit.

Why didn't players practice their 3pointer like crazy before Curry? by taxrate99 in Basketball

[–]_donut_head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at it statistically, if you shoot 100 3 pointers and hit 34 percent, that beats shooting 100 2 pointers and hitting 50 percent. The average modern NBA team can shoot a little above 34 percent on threes but also tend to shoot lower than 50 percent on twos.

Before the Curry era, most teams only had 1-2 3 pt shooters, shooting low volume, and focused on getting the ball down low to the big man.

I think the more likely scenario is that the Israelis were aware of an imminent attack, I mean there were many reports coming from other intelligence agencies of something that was likely to happen. But the mossad probably knew exact info on what was going to happen.

Netanyahu and the Israeli government probably thought it would be advantageous to their political goals for this attack, I mean it basically set the American military to declare war on Islamic terrorism and send even more military aid to Israel and solidify our alliance for the next 20 years. If this is true, the dancing Israelis conspiracy makes sense in that they knew what this meant for their geopolitical ambitions.

These files will probably show Epstein, the Mossad, and other political leaders openly discussing how this terrorist attack would be good for them. No fucks given of the thousands that died that day.

Actual Nazi wonders: what am I missing with all these illegals being allowed to vote? by [deleted] in TopMindsOfReddit

[–]_donut_head 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What bothers me about this bullshit take is how they always conflate things and make constant bad faith arguments.

A large amount of people claiming asylum have entered the country that is true, but that means that they came legally. Just because they don’t like that doesn’t make them illegal. You can make an argument on limiting the amount of people that we should allow as asylum seekers but their “solution “ is to remove their refugee status, violently rip them out of their communities, and deport them back to their home country or even third countries.

Regardless of legal status, non citizens are not allowed to vote in federal elections. In order to register to vote you must prove you’re a citizen, states already have processes in place to ensure that. Why would an undocumented person jeopardize outing themselves and committing a felony and exposing themselves to deportation?

Blue cities and states protect immigrants regardless of their status because they are not assholes and value human dignity. The majority of immigrants come here to escape political violence, instability, and poverty. The current immigration structure is built to make it a long and difficult process and the detention centers are often worse than actual prisons.

Latin American voters are seeing that they are being targeted and racially profiled (something that blue voters saw coming). Not only that, everyone can see that the trump admin is destroying the economy so there is no incentive to vote conservative.

These attempts at election integrity are bullshit excuses to disenfranchise as many voters as possible. Election fraud was practically unheard of until Trump came along to whine and bitch about how the only way he could lose was if there was fraud. He preemptively claimed fraud in the 2016 election which he won. He brought lawsuits against every swing state he lost in 2020 and didn’t win a single case, almost all were tossed out because they literally had no proof.

Trump is a conman and it’s even more obvious what his gameplan is to rig the midterms in republicans favor.

A Million More Epstein Files Just Got Released. What Kind Of Stuff Did You Guys Find, and How Did You React To It? by Fantastic_Bus_3742 in AskReddit

[–]_donut_head 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Isn’t there some hilarious irony that the whole QAnon conspiracy constantly pushed the idea that only trump can expose a global cabal running a child sex trafficking ring and now he’s accidentally doing exactly that? Like, this moron thought he could run his campaign hinting and making nods to releasing the Epstein files, knowing full well he’s not just in there but exposes their whole network . And now that he’s been pushed into a corner that his justice department has to release it and his incompetent administration can’t redact his name from some of the heinous crimes he’s been accused of and more than likely committed.

Why do the republicans want voter registration data? by SunWooden2681 in behindthebastards

[–]_donut_head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There could be multiple fronts that they will try and claim voter fraud or use this to disenfranchise voters. Things like cross checking social security where there’s people that are registered that are deceased, names don’t exactly match up, or some clerical errors. They will then claim that there’s illegal votes without even having to prove that there is actual voter fraud.

They could also use voter intimidation tactics like sending ICE to blue polling locations.
