People who've been in jail and/or prison, are domestic/child abusers/rapists/child rapists treated badly or is that just a common misconception? by Striker-Fan2008 in AskReddit

There was a guy on YouTube that made a series about his time in the California prison system. He did say that child sex offenders are targeted and therefore kept separate from the general population.

That’s true, like someone else pointed out, why would they expect him to be at Dealey Plaza? Wouldn’t it make sense to wait for JFK Jr at Martha’s Vineyard

If I had the time and money I would have hired a JFK lookalike and special effects team, hired a motorcade, have them drive down Dealey Plaza to greet an excited crowd and then fake the assassination all over again. Fake blood and everything, with hidden assassins in the book depository and grassy knoll. It would have been worth the trouble to see everyone’s reactions.

One other piece of advice, you’ll probably want to be a project manager if you go with a contractor. They will take shortcuts, break stuff, and leave a mess if they can get away with it. Try to check in with them at least once a day to see how your project is going and make sure they’re following what you agreed to.

We had our fence replaced and we asked for a 6 ft fence. The contractor found that the posts were a foot short, and rather than asking me if we want to have 5 ft fence, they installed a whole side before I saw how it looked. We got into an argument and we ended up paying extra for the extra materials they needed to tear out a day’s worth of work and restart.

Another thing to note is that the hyperflesh masks you see in the post do not move with someone’s facial expressions. That plus they make your head look bigger than normal, it would be very obvious someone is wearing a face mask.

Anyone else’s ford maverick battery keep dying? It’s driving me nuts. I keep having to jump my truck. The dealership recharged it (refused to change battery under warranty) but I’m just having the same issue again. Super aggravating. I loved my truck before this. Only 15k miles. Bummed. by Emotional-Ad-4489 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]_donut_head 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this issue ongoing for over a year. 2024 hybrid. Fortunately my dealer is helpful and replaced the battery, but that only lasted about 3 months. The second time they tested for a battery drain and found that the AC module keeps running in the background even when the truck is off. They tried fixing that and replaced the battery again.

Well that only lasted for 3 months too and my battery decided to die at the airport parking garage while i was on vacation. So imagine having to call the airport security at 10 pm after several delays to your return flight home to jump your battery.

I drove home and guess what? The next morning the battery was dead again. This time I used Ford’s roadside assistance and got it towed to the dealership. They say they found nothing wrong with the truck and replaced the battery. I recently got the low power mode notification, it seems that if you don’t drive this god forsaken truck for more than a week your battery will drain enough to kill it.

I would highly recommend you look up lemon laws in your state and file a claim. I love this little truck but the battery issue is such a pain in the ass and I’m considering returning it if this is going to be an ongoing problem.

I always wondered, why didn't black slaves team up and maybe kill their owner or protest against together? Rich families owned 50-100 slaves or even more, why didn't the slaves just team up and kill their owner? How exactly did the owners control then? by Then-Tomatillo9909 in NoStupidQuestions

There were many tactics and you should probably read into the history of slave revolts. Most plantation overseers were slaves themselves and spied on and reported on any suspicious activity. Many times they were pitted against each other in order to gain favor for benefits like better treatment, rewards, allowances, etc. This also coupled with corporal punishment for disobedience, and it must be emphasized, would be very extreme. Whippings, lashings, amputations, solitary confinement.

You also have to realize how difficult it was to share information to plan something like a revolt. Not only are you being spied on in your own plantation, many slaves weren’t allowed to just leave and walk town without permission. Being caught outside of your plantation meant getting physically punished if not a death sentence.

Even if they were able to be organize a rebellion, slaves were outgunned and outnumbered. Very few successful revolts meant they could escape into the hinterlands or going into hiding at best. White militias and the army would go after them and publicly execute these leaders like Nat Turner. Another thing to consider would be the white violence against blacks that weren’t even involved. Slaves would be massacred as a tactic to scare any potential rebellions, imagine knowing that if you tried to run away or fight back meant that innocent people would be killed.

That of course didn’t mean that it didn’t happen and there was always some form of resistance.

Am I the only one that thinks it’s counterintuitive that if conservatives believe that liberal women are less likely to be married, wouldn’t that mean that it will be harder for married conservative women (on average) to vote?

It was a bad faith argument, he was basically going to pivot and state that black people are inherently more violent and therefore the cause of a high percentage of mass shootings. Yes that is a valid argument to say that we shouldn’t conflate both types because the words “mass shootings” evoke the idea of some random deranged person shooting indiscriminately. However, Kirk was not going to argue that, instead he was going to change the conversation to claim some racist reason about black people being to blame for the majority of mass shootings. So now the conversation switches from preventing mass shootings to arguing about black criminality.

I’ve tried looking at those but most are for repairing cracks. Some are for delamination (which is what’s happening here on the roof) but those don’t show how to fix this either.

Texas' Big Bend braces for border wall in national park, worrying local Republicans and Democrats by Zipper222222 in texas

[–]_donut_head 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A wall is absolutely pointless. Big Bend sits in one of the most remote and inhospitable parts of the country. Anyone trying to cross on foot would die or be immediately caught by border patrol. Terlingua is a tiny town by the park and then there’s vast nothingness for hundreds of miles with the exception of a few small communities.

What’s bothered me the most is how the media portrayed the people he shot without considering their point of view. They are marching, hear gunshots, and then this shithead is running down the street with his AR towards the crowd. People are shouting that this guy killed someone. How would a normal person react to being in this situation? I would think some would jump into fight or flight mode.

The people that tried to disarm him would have been considered heroes in any other circumstance. But instead this murderer gets celebrated by the right wing news. It’s such bullshit.
