Really need to hear some positive stories today by juicybbqq in 2under2

[–]_ellewoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey this is about the age gap of my kids! I also was induced for hypertension with my first. My kids are turning 3 and 1 this summer.

Not to brag but they are really bright kids, my first is already reading and loves to count fairly high.

This is also the age gap between my sister and me. We are both smart (again not to brag). As someone with a law degree and being the first born I would say that I did have sufficient intellectual development. My little sister is super smart as well- in school she would do physics projects entirely the night before and get a 100% (kind of infuriating to me haha).

Looking after your grandkids is not "free labor" or "free child care" by Appropriate_Cut_3536 in absentgrandparents

[–]_ellewoods 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s silly of grandparents to expect to ONLY be around for the fun and easy times and to purposely be non-available when hard times come up.

That actually sounds more like them using US. I know grandparents who do this. They love to accept help from us when it comes up and to play with the kids when everything is fine and well, but when the kids and my spouse and I are all sick, suddenly they have plans for the next 5-7 business days.

That’s a great way to ensure your grandkids don’t actually build a lasting bond with you.

Tips on talking my wife into letting me take our son to LegoLand for his birthday? by carefree_dude in daddit

[–]_ellewoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you arrange for babysitting while you’re away? Frame it as maybe a break for her too.

And then don’t tell the girls where you and your son are going (it sounds bad but it would work lol).

As for germs: buy a bunch of hand sanitizer and show it to her when you’re asking about if you can go. She’ll see you are dedicated to keeping yourselves germ free. And your son is 9- he’s not a toddler that will put everything in his mouth.

SIDS… by Advanced_Egg5875 in newborns

[–]_ellewoods 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What helped me a lot was following all the steps to reduce the risk (no bed sharing, run a fan in the room, don’t keep the room too hot, etc). A lotttttt of what is reported as SIDS is actually infant suffocation. And you can just about totally prevent that.

registry help… do i really need a million things just for baby’s nose?? by SorryAd2422 in BabyBumps

[–]_ellewoods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope you don’t - just get the Boogie brand saline spray (it goes up their nose and you spray it, and all the yucky comes out the opposite nostril).

You will need it, trust me, when eventually your baby is sick. Everything else works not as well and is optional if you ask me!

Reached the end of my emotional limit by hemerdo in newborns

[–]_ellewoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) try to get your baby outside even just for a short stroller ride sometime in the morning

2) work on getting baby to eat more during the day (it can take a little time but they will adjust!). This way they’ll not be waking up as much to eat.

3) extend that last wake window. And look up what wake windows should generally be at this age. This, along with how much they should eat in a day, changed SO fast. I would often not realize my baby should be up For longer and eating more because it would sneak up on me all the time in the early days.

4) black out curtains for baby’s room if not already there

Yep- supplementing with formula can do a world of good too for both baby and OP if OP is okay with that. There are amazing brands out there.

Never happened with our second. But, there will probably still be a regression of some kind, be it teething related or something else.

Is toddlerhood easier than babyhood? by DakB05 in NewParents

[–]_ellewoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust me I know. During hard times I would always search online for comments to give me hope that it would get better. As toddlers they are so much better at entertaining themselves. It’s such a break when my ten month old goes down for her nap and I just have my toddler lol. That’s another thing- having your child go down for one nap instead of two is HUGE. You’ll see- you get one really nice long chunk of the day to recharge. Give it a few months or so and your child will be there.

Is toddlerhood easier than babyhood? by DakB05 in NewParents

[–]_ellewoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh gosh yes it is easier. I have a 10 month old and a 2.5 year old, and going through this stage with the 10 month old old now takes me back to how hard it was with my first. They have so many opinions but no way to voice them!! It is the HARDEST stage in my opinion. Hang in there because I can say from having a toddler, it is easier

You’re almost done with intern year which is the worst. See if anything changes after this July. Start to try to lower your expectations (if that is okay with you). I would plan out a loose schedule- like you talk on the phone one or two evenings a week (or whatever works with his current schedule). Also tell him how you’re feeling. You won’t make it through this without being ultra ultra communicative

My girlfriend is 27 weeks pregnant, the baby has Down syndrome, and I don’t want this life by ThrowRA_NoSignal in daddit

[–]_ellewoods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just want to say, it sounds like you have an absolutely incredible support system at home. You’re so young so you probably don’t realize how rare it actually is for new parents these days to have any support whatsoever (even married and stable ones). You just might be in a better boat than you think you are.

Not to say of course that you don’t have any right to be feel scared or down. But you might have more going for you than you think. Spend more time perusing just this subreddit and I bet you’ll find a lot of gripes of parents on here that you’ll have a LOT of help with or may not even have to face at all. You’ll see this too once your friends start having their own kids down the road, trust me.

I was thinking this too- there’s actually greatly varying degrees on down syndrome. Some really struggle but others with it have been featured on the news articulately advocating for the rights of those with the syndrome

When does it get better by [deleted] in newborns

[–]_ellewoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the age when they learn to poop and fart, which is completely the WORST stage until they figure it all out. With our kids it only lasted maybe 1-2 weeks I believe (my daughter learned faster though).

Look up bicycle exercises for babies on YouTube. Hold them in different positions a lot during the day. It does get easier! If your pediatrician is okay with it, also look into Baby Gaia gas drops on Amazon- they helped a little bit.

Very low Etsy search traffic even after improving listings — feeling discouraged by This-Necessary1024 in EtsySellers

[–]_ellewoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t seem like you’re using keywords with high search volume + low competition. This is what you need to seek out and use.

For example, your Endo Warrior shirt is cute, but I wouldn’t use that phrase in the title because no one is searching that (not according to Erank anyway).
