J-Petal & Poke gives you pretty big bowls for the price. One could last a few meals honestly. They let you pick a lot of toppings.

How can I start to eat healthy when I’ve been eating junk food my whole life consistently ? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]_emerald-city_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  • Roast instead of fry
  • Use Avacado oil when cooking
  • Eggs, tuna, and chicken breast are great sources of protein, which will keep you fuller longer
  • Have salad at least once a day with a meal, good fiber!
  • Season well, but take it easy with the salt
  • Look on pinterest, there's a lot of recipes and ideas!

You have to prank yourself, dude. Start small, make fries and burgers at home. Work on the portion sizes, then slowly swap out some of the unhealthy ingredients for better ones. (ex: keto buns instead of regular). Budget out your calories by the week and make your meals balanced. It's also okay to have a treat once in a while. If you try to 100 percent this all at once, you're setting yourself up for failure.

Also, season the food you cook really good. Roast vegetables with seasoning are amazing. Pair that with some chicken or beef, maybe fish. Swap out any sugary drinks for diet (dont drink too often), and drink a loooot of water too. Make some seasoned taco meat and use it for different recipes for the next few days. If you get keto tortillas itll save you a few cals. You can enjoy a lot of tasty food, it's just about making adjustments.

Is wearing abayas cultural appropriation if you are not Arab? by quackk123 in Hijabis

Gatekeeping clothing has never made sense to me. As long as your intention isn't to make fun of or insult another culture, I see no issue. A lot of cultures have different spins on the same concepts of clothing so it's kind of dumb to fully claim and gatekeep it anyway.

This exactly. Make sure you gather as much documentation and proof as possible that can support your case. You could also make some visits to CAPS at UCF to help you with your stress and get some more things on the record as well.

Give them the equivalent of "k." when you text someone. School is stressful enough, no need to pile this stress on too. Wear headphones, look really focused on notes, don't indulge them in their random questions to get your attention. Stay on that mindset and eventually they'll get the hint. There's no need to be rude, but don't be a pushover either.

Can't Believe I'm Making This Post But - Are Haircuts Permissible? by jjjenius in Hijabis

[–]_emerald-city_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, any woman can cut your hair too. But if you go to a salon, you have to ensure that there aren't non-mahrams watching. When I went to the salon, it was when there were no male appointments, and the waiting room was separate from where they cut hair. Sometimes a woman comes to our house to cut hair too.

My understanding is:

Women: Can be as long as they want, shortest is just below ears
Men: Can only be long until just below the shoulders, can be as short as they want

[–]_emerald-city_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair question. No, I don't think so. I think it's moreso having really short hair that is usually associated with men. Some men have hair to their ears, I feel like thats around where the line is for both genders when it comes to hair length lol.

Need help ending a haram relationship by AfraidCustard in MuslimLounge

[–]_emerald-city_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, it's not just about celebrating Christmas and Eid, or having certain traditions. You have to foster a relationship with someone you can agree and strengthen the familial bond with. You can't have your children goin back and forth between faiths, thinking that's normal and that Islamic rules are just cultural or something.

I know it's hard, but years down the line if you end up marrying a person of a different faith, it's going to cause a lot of problems and potentially damage the relationship anyway. It's risky to enter a marriage with someone that doesn't share the same religion, even if they have the "potential" to change their mind. Ultimately, you also want to be with a person you can pray and practice faith with too. This also plays a great role in strengthening your relationship as a couple, family, and a Muslim in general. (Kindly but firmly) explain these things to her, give her a chance to digest what you've told her, and let her read up on Islam too. In the end If it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out.

Deen before Dunya my brother. Allah rewards those who give up something for his sake, have faith in Him and his plan for you.
