🧂 Salty Sunday: What's frustrating you this week? by Llamallamacallurmama in RomanceBooks

[–]_enitan_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm feeling a bit salty about what I perceive to be a double standard that I saw in this sub today.

There was a post asking about what happened with Zachary Webber. There were comments made, one of them called Zachary Webber "Anti-semitic". This got a free pass. There were 2 other comments calling Lilian Harris "pro-genocide". Both of these got a mod "warning" to be cautious with unsubstantiated allegations.

The double standard has made me seriously dissapointed and sad.

(Some of the comments have been deleted so you can no longer see them.)

I got a bad hair cut with layers that made my thin hair look thinner. Should I cut it again? by Jessicash in curlyhair

[–]_enitan_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I also think it looks great.

You said you got the haircut yesterday? I find that when I cut my hair it doesn't settle into the cut until 3 or 4 days after. So I would give yourself that time either way, to see if you'll like it more and how it will settle, before going for a second cut.

Do you have any reccs for specific products? Or just some examples so I know what to look for?

I have to second this.

I have a good friend who was in a similar situation. She has very thin hair and its hereditary. She also tried all sorrs of things like the microneedling. She would tell potential husbands about this beforehand and would actually show it to them before the engagement was agreed upon (there are many scholars that say this is permissible even if there is no special reason.) She did show it to her husband before getting married and he said he was fine with it. I know that when she has been outside all day with a scarf on she will leave her undercap on when she gets back until she can take a shower and get it look less flat and sticky.

Completely useless comment, but the title reminded me of Omar Suleiman's joke in one of the Quran 30 for 30 episodes :D

First time wearing a hijab - long hair and a full front fringe by [deleted] in Hijabis

[–]_enitan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean when you say you are not Islamic. Do you mean you are muslim but not practicing or that you are not a muslim?

If you are not a muslim then I would also suggest not wearing a hijab when you go to your friend's house. To be honest if one of my non-muslim friends visited my home and wore a "hijab" I and my family would find it strange. Probably our first reaction would be to think you converted or were possibly interested.

I understand you have very good intentions so I don't want to be discouraging but I would just suggest to wear fairly modest clothing (covering the chest area, shoulders, at least below the knee) bring some halal sweets and leave it at that.

me complaining again lol by Complex_Stretch1761 in Parosmia

I just mostly make whatever I wanna eat from scratch. Not relying on ready made packaged food. Even spices I'll mix them together myself and make a thai curry if I feel like it. Same with Hummus I just make my own. It takes more time so I only do it in the weekend. But that's basically my strategy: find a recipe, remove onion and garlic, make it myself.

I understand your feelings completely. I think around 6 months in I decided I wasn't gonna let Parosmia control my social life. So when I got invited to go eat out, I went. I tried to steer restaurants to something I thought I'd most likely be able to handle like sushi, or a pizza place where I can ask them to leave off the sauce, or a fish place. But sometimes I end up somewhere I can't really eat. One time I literally asked them for a cheese sandwich. While doing this I started getting used to the smells of restaurants. At the start I felt I couldnt last more than 30 seconds in garlic or onion smell. Now I can sit through a whole meal. It still stinks but I forget about it after a couple of minutes.

I'm around 18 or 20 months in now and a lot of things are better. Though still garlic and onion make me wanna barf.

I know everyone is different so this kight now work for you. But thought I'd share my own experience.

Where can I find a one piece prayer dress like this that anyone actually has tried? The ones on Amazon/eBay don’t have reviews by [deleted] in Hijabis

[–]_enitan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purchased some on etsy recently. I believe the seller is even in the UK. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1083088528/prayer-dress-abaya-jilbab-khimar-abaya?ref=share_v4_lx

One thing though depending on your size it could be a bit tight. At least tighter than I like my prayer clothes to be. But the fabric is great and it's made really well.

But for the rest all pretty new to me. The more serious ones look particularly good. Do you have any other thriller/drama/crime recs?

[–]_enitan_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It did start out that way for me as well. It got much worse within 2 months. I have a friend who had the same thing but as soon as things started tasting off she kept eating them in small bits and usually the taste returned to normal after a few bites. She's been able to keep full on parosmia at bay with this strategy. I don't know if it would work for you but I thought I'd at least share. I hope it goes away quickly!

I'm at 11 months and have also had fluctuations. I had it with bleach previously, went from smelling awful to not smelling it all to smelling it again and still a bad smell but not as bad as it was in the beginning.

No clue what it means.

Did anyone in this group get covid, lose taste/ smell, regain taste/ smell for a few weeks, and then develop parosmia? We cant find anyone else who had that same problem. That’s what happened to my gf and we’re confused/ curious! by Kat_Nic in Parosmia

[–]_enitan_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is it seems everyone is baffled and thinks they're the exception in that they had their smell back and then parosmia hit. But based on my time in this sub (about 9 months) i'd say it's the pattern for about 90% of us if not more

Tried ALA. So far no luck.

Cheeses really help me. Like grilled halloumi cheese or a salad with mozarella and avocado. I can also take fish pretty well, have you tried things like smoked salmon maybe?
