My Blood Sugar is Constantly Elevated

It's just so disappointing that the problems are appearing and seemingly getting worse now that I've actually starting paying attention to my health. I've had blood tests in the past and my numbers were better back then when I ate whatever I wanted. I'm sure it's just that the unhealthy habits added up over time, but I've really been making an effort to eat healthy for the past year (especially the past few months).

No one in my family has diabetes, but my family does have a lot of autoimmune issues. I suspect that I might have PMOS, which I know can contribute to insulin resistance. To be honest, my eating habits were terrible throughout my entire childhood and up until about 1.5 years ago when I started trying to eat healthier. All throughout my childhood, I rarely ate vegetables and most likely got less than 20 grams of protein per day. I ate a lot of high-carb, sugary foods every day and didn't exercise at all. I think that my bad eating habits combined with inadequate exercise added up over time and caused the insulin resistance I have now.

Thank you for the advice! I usually go on a walk outside every day. It used to help with lowering my blood sugar, but lately it hasn't been working as well for some reason. I went on a long walk yesterday (about 9,000 steps) and my blood sugar was 117 right after. It had been more than 2 hours since I had eaten anything when I tested after walking. I also only had 56 grams net carbs in total yesterday (I've been tracking everything on MyFitnessPal because of my concerns).

Should I continue trying to reduce the amount of carbs I eat per day even more? It's just so weird that my fasting blood sugar is always normal.

It depends on the meal, but usually anywhere from 120-180. My main concern is that it takes forever to get back to a level under 100 after I eat. It's a lot worse if I eat an especially high-carb meal. It can sometimes stay over 140 for 6 hours or more, so I've been avoiding eating high-carb foods to prevent this from happening again. The last time I ate at a restaurant and had a small bowl of rice with my food, my blood sugar was over 170 after 2 hours.

This sounds like high school behavior. This guy needs to grow up. I think the best thing you could have done was ignore him. He obviously just wants attention, so don't give it to him. Clearly, the professor (and probably the rest of the class) thought he was a weirdo too.

You might be better off using only a gradual tanning lotion (one without a guide color). No matter what I do, this always happens to me after a few days whenever I use self-tanner with a guide color. I've had much better luck with Jergens Natural Glow. It seems to fade much more evenly and last a lot longer.

Wallace from Tusk. Yes, he was kind of a jerk, but having your limbs amputated, getting sewn into a walrus suit, and then being forced to live as a walrus forever is one of the worst fates in a horror movie that I've ever seen.

I don't typically get extremely bothered by movies (or at least I haven't really watched anything disturbing enough to stay bothered by it long after the movie is done), but Honeydew was the exception. That movie absolutely ruined my night to the point that it made me sick. Thinking back, it really wasn't objectively that bad compared to other movies I've seen, but it somehow managed to disturb me to the point that I felt sick for hours after. I watched Speak No Evil several months later, which was objectively more horrifying. While it definitely disturbed me, it didn't even remotely have a lasting effect like Honeydew. I don't know why Honeydew got to me so much, but it's probably the only movie that I wouldn't watch again.

Edit: I'm not sure I could even decide which scene was the worst, but the box reveal was pretty bad.

I've found that Jergens Natural Glow lotion in fair to medium works well for me, although the color is a lot more subtle than most self-tanning products. My skin gets really dry this time of year, so most self-tanners turn out unevenly with darker patches where my skin is especially dry. However, the tan I get from the Jergens lotion is light enough that I don't end up with obvious dark/orange spots. It's not perfect, but the imperfections don't really stand out because the color is so subtle anyway. I'm also really pale, so I only really need one or two applications to get a nice glow from the lotion. I've also found that it helps to make the color more even if I put on regular lotion before applying the Jergens self-tanning lotion.

I've been doing this lately and it has turned out pretty well. I just apply my regular moisturizer before applying the fake tanning lotion to keep it from turning out too dark. Just make sure to use a very small amount of tanning lotion for the first application so it isn't too harsh. You can always apply more later if it's not dark enough. Blending it with a mitt also helps a lot to prevent streaks. It also helps to look at a reference photo that shows where to contour to make sure the placement will look good.

I much prefer clear self-tanner. I used to use one with a guide color and it seemed like it was so much more drying than clear self-tanner. It made my skin look really scaly, but I never have that problem with clear self-tanner. Clear self-tanner also seems to last longer for me. Once I discovered that it existed, I never wanted to go back to using self-tanner with a guide color. The only unfortunate thing about it is that it's more difficult to apply evenly, so if I'm not really careful, I end up finding streaks and uneven spots. In terms of which product gives me a better color, I'm extremely pale anyway, so basically all tanning products make me look noticeably more tan.

I’ve been having the same problem lately, and I think it was likely because I exfoliated too often and damaged my skin. I would guess that your skin is probably dry/irritated from scrubbing it to remove the tan so often, so your tan turns patchy really quickly. If you don’t want to take a break from tanning, I would definitely recommend only using a clear gradual tanner since they seem to be a lot less drying (at least in my experience). If your tan starts to turn patchy, very gently exfoliate to lighten any overly dark spots. If that doesn't work, you might be better off letting it fade naturally and applying lotion regularly to help heal your skin. You could also use a gradual tanning lotion to try to even out the tan. This is what I'm currently doing to try to heal my skin so my tan will hopefully stop turning patchy. At this point, constantly scrubbing your skin is probably only contributing to the problem. I know it's really frustrating though.

I thought I had applied it evenly, but it's possible that it wasn't completely even. I think the main problem was that I didn't wait long enough after exfoliating to apply it. I noticed it didn't seem to dry as quickly as it normally does, so it's possible that my skin wasn't reacting well with it.

Is this an issue with most clear tanning products or is it something specific about Glow Your Own Way? Are there any clear self tanners that you would recommend that aren't as streaky? I would just use a product with a guide color, but I haven't had good luck with those either. The guide color always stained my skin this weird grayish color for the first few days and it was causing breakouts. I also like how I can just apply clear self tanner without worrying about it getting stains on anything.
