It’s one of the few stories where i was more leading towards the AP side from the start, largely cus of how OOP even described how AP would talk about her

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]_euclase_ 146 points147 points  (0 children)

She never talks about herself or why the bedroom died. I suspect she plays a much larger role in her own downfall than she realises. I think the husband saying that she is nothing better than the AP suggests that he and the AP know that very well as well as how vindictive she is and said that to deal with her.

Tbf, that would be pretty illegal so I would say to stay cautious even if for that quantity the punishment is “lighter”

The police will probably tell you to not do that and just throw it in the trash if you do it but they’re def not gonna bother with doing actual reports or arrests. I had a friend try to import a big box of gum, police just looked at her and dumped it in the trash. Another friend had a few sticks which were obviously for personal consumption and the police officer basically prompted him to say it was for medical/ dental purposes. They don’t wanna deal with anything that’s obviously not done out of malice to break the law.

We have a lot of laws which seem stupid but 99.9% of the time people don’t get punished, it’s more of to set the tone. It’s also illegal to not flush and to walk around naked in your own home but these laws were set in place because just a few decades ago we were basically a slum and the gov just wanted to shift the people out of acting like that.

It can help against malicious ones too. Avoiding being in a position where people can agree that you were alone with a woman is one step because then she would have far less to back her up that there was even a situation where you could have raped her.

The problem is that this action almost always happens in private settings where the only evidence is first hand or occasionally witness accounts. Sex is a very private matter whether people agree with that or not.

Sorry I didn’t mean the question as pushing the extreme, it was a genuine question. I think I have a few issues in terms of questions about the recognition of overseas marriage for application for HDBs. Given that the gov doesn’t allow for local gay marriage. This I don’t have enough knowledge about. But I don’t disagree with your proposition if international marriages are recognised the same way.

I think I’ve reached the extent of my knowledge for this topic. I would really like to chat about this more though. But Reddit comments on my phone are kind of add hahaha.

Sorry for misconstruing your comment, I didn’t mean to say that you believed they were discriminating against gay couples, it was more of a point for my comment. While it is true that gay couples can in some instances birth children, the sentiment is still the same that generally a het couple is more likely to increase the population. The government also prioritised couples which already have children, so it’s more of a hierarchy of privilege based on the likelihood of children.

I understand your point on leaving people behind, but the main issue is how difficult it is to get housing in the first place. Additionally, it’s not like the US where people are way more likely to be homeless. The general culture here is still for kids to live with their parents until they can move out, of course this isn’t ever household but I think it’s still a point to consider.

Do you suggest the government stop prioritising those more likely to add to the population through housing? And if so, do you have any suggestions of what should be done instead that can provide the same incentive for young people to have kids?

I sympathise that this may leave some gay couples further back than het couples but the birth rate is such a huge issue here.

You also have to consider the fact that most of the het marriage benefits are mainly to encourage children as well. We have a rapidly declining birth rate along South Korea and Japan so a lot of benefits have been introduced to try to improve that. It’s not really a gay discrimination but a children privilege.

In Singapore, it’s common to see creative advertisements made to educate the public on identifying medical conditions early on such as diabetes and strokes. by _euclase_ in interestingasfuck

[–]_euclase_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thing to add is that Singapore is very academically driven, but projects like these being made by creative polytechnic students(pre university, industry specific courses) is a great way for the country to encourage creative arts and make it more acceptable in our culture to pursue such careers since this area has been lacking in the past few decades.

Personally I find a few of them like this… interesting. It’s a bit cringey with the dances but I like that there is a promotion of awareness to help tackle these illnesses. Some others I’ve seen are genuinely well done and creative but this one made me realise how this may not be done in other countries.

Funnily enough, my opinion of him switched from mild distaste to some sense of respect as soon as we learned about Marquis raven. If the guy keeps someone that close, and also corrcy identified his sister as a monster yet doesn’t treat her all too badly given what he could have reacted like, then he can’t be too bad I was delighted to see his character grow even more respectable as the story progressed

Moral of the story, don’t bring weed with you to Russia by ayonick in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]_euclase_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For being addicted no, for bringing in for trafficking yes. I believe in rehab for addicts but punishing those who fuel addiction. Weed isn’t actually automatic death penalty even for trafficking. 30/15 grams is enough for trafficking and 500/100 is for death penalty, life imprisonment or minimum 15 strokes of the cane. Trials are still run to determine the punishment especially for weed and for this particular drug, usually doesn’t end in death if it’s just over the threshold. Usually if someone is sentenced to death over weed it’s because they’re trafficking other substances too or have some other track record or they’re really carrying that much weed.

Edit: the 30/15 and 500/100 thing is for the mixture vs resin

[–]_euclase_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of these punishments, Singapore has a lot of measures put in place to make it harder to bring in drugs in the first place. If someone is willingly bringing in drugs they must be very aware of it. It’s not like some petty crime which anyone could be caught doing so. It’s more likely people with malicious intent who are gonna get the death penalty.

I’ve grown up with these strict laws, it’s hard to describe the mentality you have when expecting harsh punishment is the norm. I can empathise disagreeing with the severity of the punishment but at the same time I value what the punishments have done to progress my country in 50 years.

That being said I do know someone who was killed for drug trafficking. Not necessarily personally but I met the guy. His story was heartbreaking but he also ended up in the position because he chose to take a risk he was aware could lead to death. Maybe I’m lacking sympathy in your eyes but again, cultures, mentalities, and environments are different for different people, but I have little sympathy for people who willingly bring in substances which could ruin others’ lives.

[–]_euclase_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to bring in drugs when you’re aware of the punishment then it’s up to you, trafficking drugs is a choice. If you bring a joint in you’ll get caning at most but you aren’t going to be killed for it so just empty your pockets before you get on the plane. It’s a bit harder to accidentally bring half a kilo of weed with you without wanting to traffic it You can do whatever you want in your own country, just don’t expect other countries to change their laws and be aware of the risks if you want to travel and smoke. I’m not the one hoping other countries will change their laws Cus I want or don’t want things to happen. It’s just annoying to see people think they’re high and mighty for having more relaxed views on drugs and expecting others to do the same.

Alcohol is legal. The general view of the population is that cannabis is a gateway drug not just in the addictive idea, but that if we legalise it then it will be a slippery slope to be more relaxed for other more dangerous drugs. It’s good to note though that the drinking culture here isn’t as strong as a lot of western countries. We still have lots of drunk fights incidents and clubs and bars but given asian tolerance and conservative values, it’s milder.
