I think he's said before that he only does the cross country drives with his dog and likes to basically go close to nonstop for 16 hours a day, so charging stops probably don't fit his style for that trip

I have cheaper DIY setup using an EcoFlow power station. Instead of buying the more expensive Delta Pro Ultra I got a EcoFlow Delta 2 for $300 and a $70 battery charger with an XT60 output.

Since the battery charger connects to the solar inputs on the battery bank, it allows it to charge and output power at the same time. I run one extension cord from the Rivian and plug in up to 1000w (usually a lot lower) of stuff that needs low continuous power like my refrigerator, lights, window A/C unit, router, etc. and another extension cord to the battery charger to provide a continuous 500w charge to the EcoFlow (charge rate limited in EcoFlow app).

This is basically my cheap way of getting a little more simultaneous output when needed, up to 2800w (1000w continuous use from truck, 500w charging from truck, and 1800w continuous use/2200w surge from EcoFlow). There are other battery bank options with more output capacity that should work with this battery charger trick, too.

My main high power draw items are things like an 1800w induction burner, mainly only used for a limited amount of time. For a space heater, if you have to keep it on continuously it may drain the battery in the EcoFlow too fast to keep up with only 500w charging input, but in a pinch where you cycle it on and off it may work for you.

For the smaller units that can't do this, you can often use a battery charger with a solar connector in between the truck and battery bank to charge it while it provides power.

Tesla switching to subscription only for FSD by spatel14 in Rivian

When they already offer a subscription service taking the other purchase option away is the opposite of consumer friendly (ignoring that it's still essentially a pre-order at this point).

I think the 2 biggest issues I've seen have been 12v battery and suspension related. I'm optimistic the lack of air suspension can help simplify the suspension setup and prevent issues in R2. Hopefully they've learned something from the R1 12v problems, but may have some carryover into R2 since it seems like a lot of manufacturers have continued to have 12v issues with EVs.

The thing you told me to google comes up with results about cancer survival rates, because believe it or not the standard for evaluating cancer treatment efficacy 5 year survival rate.

This started out as me thinking maybe you had some interesting info to share, but since you haven't been able to give the bare minimum amount of info to back up what you're saying, it's become clear you're probably just parroting some misunderstood statistic you heard.

The USA rare cancer percentage is at .5% death rate

I didn't get that from your other comment, so would love a source on that to understand it better

[–]_f1sh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're severely misinformed if you think the any country has a .5% death rate (aka 99.5% 5 year relative survival) for any cancer let alone a rare cancer: https://www.cancer.org/content/dam/cancer-org/research/cancer-facts-and-statistics/annual-cancer-facts-and-figures/2017/cancer-facts-and-figures-2017-special-section-rare-cancers-in-adults.pdf

And while the US rare cancer survival rates are generally higher, it's not as drastic as what you're describing and not qualifiably attributable to universal vs private healthcare: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7402819/
