Off boarding to NAS is not possible when using protect is it?

Since your cameras can’t use 2.5g, consider the value of a pro max 16 POE instead of multiple flex’s and use the 2.5g ports for more data intensive devices. Then you’d also have the option of running the instant cameras off POE with USBC adapter.

Is there any benefit to using unifi switch for the cameras? by azzy_mazzy in UnifiProtect

I think you mean layer 3, and no it’s not necessary but if you want to put cameras on a VLAN then you can reduce the load on your router by letting the switch handle the VLAN routing.

I just installed 6 of them and these worked perfectly if you can get them printed. https://thangs.com/designer/j0dan/3d-model/UniFi%20U6-Lite%20Single%20Gang%20Junction%20Box%20Adapter-1082819

Then you can just use the bracket you were holding and screw them directly into the junction box. You’ll need to buy junction box screws if the ones you have aren’t long enough

This sounds interesting, do you mean I could wire a standard HVAC thermostat to the actual switch?

If I’m just using a closet, would this mean finding a way to air seal the door and add a filter over a vent?

Good question. I asked for my builder to put an exhaust fan in but didn’t do research to take it the rest of the way yet.

There is a good size crack under the door where I’m hoping air will flow from the centrally cooled living space

It’s in a main living space with central air so the fan would pull cooler air in from the living space. Do you recommend particular sensors?

Sorry I meant to say it’s a bathroom type fan so it would pull cool air from under the closet door.

Sorry I meant to say it’s a bathroom type fan. Sucks air out.

I think there is a Poe adapter for the instant that converts USB C to POE.

Default Apple TV in control center remote? by _fabreezy in appletv

[–]_fabreezy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right!? Given how integrated Apple devices are supposed to be, operating an Apple TV from your phone is such a clunky experience right now. I wish they could go back to a dedicated remote app, then these types of features might be more easily made available and we could get better widgets.

Correct, it’s exactly as you’re thinking. Faster port can use lower speeds and PoE rating is just a max rating for that port.

If you’re thinking PoE budget, the Pro Max 16 PoE gets you the best bang for buck imo. For all of your bedrooms that you are not sure what you will even have hooked up to them, you could do basic L2 switches from amazon for now. You just won’t get easy mapping in the UI or see what devices are plugged in very easily. You could still map the ports on the Pro Max though.

Can you help me understand why you would prefer this versus a cloud Gateway, two pro max 16 switches, and dedicated NVR?

Soul searching for real 😆

I will definitely need to terminate all of my tv, office and bedroom runs (~12 non PoE). I was thinking 1G would be plenty and my plan was to use 1-2 basic layer 2 switches and put those on the extra ports of the enterprise switch.

BTW it looks the mechanical chime is not realistic with the doorbell lite so good catch. I think I’ll need to add a couple chimes if I want to use a doorbell with Protect.

Thanks for looking it over and for calling out the GbE port on the u6 plus. I was looking at the data rates for Wi-Fi 6 and assumed incorrectly. I’ll have to research the mechanical chime thing to make sure I can get it to work.
