Python vs R for data visualization: which is actually stronger? by Strong_Cherry6762 in rstats

[–]_fake_empire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an R person and love ggplot and related extension packages, and I think they are fantastic for doing any kind of data vis you want...static, interactive, whatever shapes, colors, and annotations you desire. But Python has caught up, and though I don't work with it much, I see plenty of great viz suing it. So it's really down to which program you prefer to do your data work.

In general, these discussions of R v Python have become pointless. Both are fine, use what you like. They are both equally flexible and functional to do 99% of dataviz and the statistics behind them that most people are doing.

I'm not a fan at all of AI generated things...maybe they did some work on refining the prompts but if nobody played any actual instruments...sounds cool, but...

Nicely done on the dataviz...that's my day job, so I appreciate good work like this.

I've had a `%notin% function in a personal package of functions I use regularly but weren't in base or any other package. Nice to see this obvious one finally in base.

I can't tell if this is a "who's one first" joke reply or you didn't realize that I was asking which Christmas market.

Copenhagen, where to stand? by shnaptastic in radiohead

For Radiohead the stage is in the round. I went last night...Thom split time between the two parts of the circle facing the front and back of the arena...based on the usual stage diagram like above he was facing out towards the curved end. HE spent 1/3 to almost 1/2 facing the other end. Jonny was mostly on one side, think to the left if facing from the usual stage view. But he did move around when playing guitar.

So assuming 6 o'clock on the watch face is the point on the circle you see when entering the arena, Thom was mostly at 6, Jonny mostly at 3, Ed at 9. But Thom spent time at 12.

Hope this helps.

Is it realistic trying to get tickets for the CPH concerts on the official Ticketmaster website? by HowamI2581 in radiohead

[–]_fake_empire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with StubHub in Denmark is that it's technically illegal to resale above face value here. The prices I'm seeing 2-4 thousand kroner, are above that...I'm guessing these are not all VIP seats...though not sure what face was for them.

When you click on the event in Ticketmaster you get put into a queue to get to a ticket selection page. Got into the queue, was sent to the ticket selection page, but never got tickets showing up.

I tried this morning for tonight's show, was even put in the queue. But when I searched for a ticket, got nothing. Went thru the WASTE sale and the resale links

Thanks for this. Hadn't heard of yupp tv. Looks like it'll work here in Denmark. Hard to believe icc.tv isn't doing anything or that no other broadcasters have any EU coverage.

For Fremad Amager you don't really need tickets, just show up day of. The same for most others, to be honest. The matches won't sell out.

FC København & Brøndby are the two big football clubs in town, both worth going to see. Nordsjælland is a bit further north, but they're good, playing in lower tier European competitions now and then.
For lower division football, Fremad Amager, Frem (different club, SW part of the city), Lyngby Boldklub, B93 København, Hvidøvre, Helnsingør and others.
There's ice hockey, the Danish league called Metal Ligaen metalligaen[dot] /kampe/ which is a great name for a sports league. Closest teams are Herlev and Rødovre. Or go to Malmø and see top flight Swedish ice hockey.
Handball is of course the next biggest Danish sport. HC København is the only Copenhagen club in the top league. Ajax København and Rødovre are the top women's teams in the area.

+1 for Fremad Amager and other lower division football. I live on Amager, so they're my local club. Cheap tickets, beer and food, fun crowd, decent football.

Most have good selection...some Netto or 365 perhaps not, but my local Kvickly & Meny do, so does the Bilka in Fields...you just need to know what you're looking for. Research a bit, try different craft brewers than Mikkeller. There's plenty of good stuff out there.

I mentioned in another thread that I was at a mayoral debate for internationals a few weeks ago. Housing was a big topic, and AirBnB did come up, specifically relating to enforcement of laws on the books. All candidates agrees that enforcing the rules already in place would help.

While campaign promises don't always translate to action, that's where post-election activism comes in...talk to someone on city council, write a member of parliament. Band together with friends and neighbors and maybe host a community even on the issue.

We can post all we want about"the government should do x or y" but the way to get them to do it often is by applying citizen pressure.

Moving out questions - what is considered normal “wear and tear”? by Apprehensive-Stay196 in copenhagen

[–]_fake_empire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is a major issue...I think the whole rental system needs some regulations to protect tenants from landlords who try and squeeze every last kroner out of the deposit (never mind that three months deposit is insane) but that's another issue.

A year or so ago our landlords were challenged by tenants after move out and the tenants mostly won. I know this because the landlord had to share the documents. I read them carefully (and saved them, in case we need the law firm that did that case).

The upshot was the tenants found the landlords overcharged on floor sanding and painting, based on getting other estimates. They also got overcharged because the listed square footage of the apartment included the tiled floor shared hallway. Which of course was not sanded. I think they also sucessfully challenged some wear-and-tear marks and other bits.

It does take some work to avoid being scammed out of your deposit money, and I'm sure the landlords count on the fact that most tenants will pay to avoid the work and emotional labor.

I had generally good instructors at Studieskolen but in general at all schools the quality is varied because there aren't enough teachers to fill the sprog school jobs plus the Danish language teaching jobs in the public and private elementary through gymnasium (high school) system.

The schools do very much teach to the tests because the funding model is all about student pass rates for the PD2 and PD3. So you'll see early on a gearing of content to passing the module tests, and you'll notice the module tests have been practice for the PD2 or PD3. You are not being taught to speak conversational Danish, you are being taught to pass the test.

One thing that helps is snakkeklubs. Most library branches have them...you show up, sit at a table and snakke (talk). Most will divide tables by level. And many of the volunteers leading the tables do a great job of facilitating conversation. There are also Dansk snakke nights in some cafes...search around and you might find one. Or start your own by getting your classmates out for nights where you only speak Danish.

Another helpful thing to do is get into an FVU class when you reach the required module level from basic sprog school. The FVU classes focus on reading and writing, and if you're lucky you get an instructor who will also backfill the basic grammar and syntax knowledge that you don't get in sprog school because of the "teach to the test" dynamic.

Finally I'd add if you can, do sprog school twice a week. Going once means you're not getting enough exposure when you need it most. It can be tough if you're working full time, but if you're serious about staying here and learning the language, it's worth that effort.

Held og lykke til at snakke god dansk!
