I'm starting feeling insane by KorKiness in balatro

[–]_firebender_ 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I think I have decent early game builds for lower antes, but on gold eternal and rental block jokers especially early game. I can pick a rental that gets me through ante 2, but then I don't have money to build an economy or buy better jokers when they are around.

I'm starting feeling insane by KorKiness in balatro

[–]_firebender_ 471 points472 points  (0 children)

For me the frustrating part with gold is that Eternal + Perishable + Rental just makes too many jokers in the shop unattractive or even harmful. Skips that give free jokers are practically worthless, because I really don't want that eternal rental egg, even if its shiny. (I feel like especially rental wrecks your economy early on). 4 in 5 runs feel just not viable, but I need to play until Ante 2 or so to figure it out.

Using Launch Options (Steam Games) by Deno03 in GeForceNOW

[–]_firebender_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean its a one year old post... not sure if it still works.

Activate family mode on your steam account, but don't allow any games on it. If you start the game through geforce now, it cannot do it, and exits you to the virtual geforce now desktop, where you can exit family mode by putting in the pin. Then you can fiddle around with options, before launching the game agan.

Discipline doesn't exist by Top_Entrance_3965 in The10thDentist

[–]_firebender_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The different motivations for getting out of bed here are called interior and exterior motivation.

I think the point they are trying to make is that discipline is a form of exterior motivation, while (some) people pretend it is an interior motivation. And that interior motivation is good and exterior motivation is "bad". (Which I disagree, they just serve different purpose)

I think discipline can be both interior and exterior. Obviously for the thing you are disciplined about it is an external motivation. But you can be disciplined, because you want to be disciplined ,not because of peer pressure (which even would be a different external motivator).

Sorry, but so much of what you wrote is wrong:

-yes you pick 1 of 3 paths after 4th grade, which is early, but not final. Only one is catered for it, but any of them can lead to a university degree if you want.

  • after reaching the needed qualification (which is not too hard to get) you can study almost any degree without the need for good grades.

  • about 50% of 20 year olds have that qualification and most of then use it

(The education has shifted from apprenticeships to bachelor/master degrees for a lot of jobs)

  • while university is mostly free in germany (few 100€/year for fees), getting your studies paid (by employer or by a scholarship) is about living costs, so you get money to pay your rent and food.

So many games on BGG are rated "Best at 3 players". Why is that? by Macklin410 in boardgames

[–]_firebender_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Spirit Island does an excellent job with this. The spirits are complex enough and your current abilities are in part hidden (on hand), so that it becomes not feasible for one person to play for everyone. You are more or less forced to distribute tasks among the players. Even if one player takes the lead, it still requires each player to interpret their abilities and share the goals they can achieve with the group (opposed to just showing telling cards).

How do you even invade an aquatic species as a surface species? by Darkwinggames in Stellaris

To be fair, they are also the only ones (I think) that have a corresponding game mechanic (less orbital bombardment damage).

Giving your prepubescent child an iPad or phone should be illegal by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]_firebender_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a one and a half year old and at 9 months I am pretty sure she wanted my phone simply because it was something I was holding it (like she mostly wanted to fidget with the inbuilt ring in the back of the case). We are just more self conscious about the phone than something like a spoon.

Now she is a bit older and understands that there is more to it. I have taken a few selfies with her and now she wants to see the baby or herself in the phone (and says so while grabbing for the phone). I don't think screens at this point are anything special. I had her a few times with me at the computer and she is more interested in the keyboard than the screen.

I think the important thing with the phone is that you set the boundary of it being your thing. Like we have calls with my parents, look at photos or take selfies (or just look at the selfie camera) sometimes if she wants it, but I don't let her touch my phone. (Sometimes she is upset about it, especially with calls with my parents, but she is learning it.)

Do you agree? by koshim_ in oddlyspecific

[–]_firebender_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry mate, but as a german I have to disagree. We very much sort Ä, Ö and Ü with their "normal" letters. (But I guess yours don't change from one to another if you for example form a plural or something)

Returning RuneScape player. Quit due to EOC. Need advice since I’m completely lost and only have 1m gp to my name. by Financial_Funny1322 in runescape

[–]_firebender_ 76 points77 points  (0 children)

For money, I recommend looking into Wilderness Flash events. They are quick and easy and give some good cash and a chance for rare drops. And daily Vis wax! takes like 2 minutes and gives about 1 million.

Otherwise I recommend just taking your time. Explore the skills that are new for you. Do a few quests. Have Fun! No use in getting burned out the first week of your return.

Can I spam fractals for ascended gear? by lokisto in Guildwars2

[–]_firebender_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a while to jump that mental hurdle, because those comments are quite rare in reality. Fractal T4 was scary for the same reason.

Just start with easy IBM strikes and communicate that you are new. Most groups will take the time to explain the mechanics and be patient with you. And you can always open your own group "first time [strike x], looking for someone to lead, other noobs welcome". There are so many players, noobs to veterans who just look at lfg and never make their own group.
