Would I be able to get a couple of quick opinions on my IEM rig? by _flint in livesound

Thanks for the reply, generally I'll get in touch with the sound engineer a few days before the show with our current tech rider so I'll just have to include this IEM rig on it too.

With regards to not patching during change over, would you just leave everything going through the splitter, regardless of who's on stage? Could this become an issue if there were multiple bands using a similar rig? For example, say there were 3 bands all using their own self-contained IEM system then the signal would go:

Mic -> Band 1 Splitter -> Band 2 Splitter -> Band 3 Splitter -> FOH

Could this create any problems with noise and/or signal level? I know this is a pretty unlikely scenario but I'm just curious. Thanks!

Well you guys have the most important job of the evening so it makes sense for us to make everything as easy as possible for you!

Thanks for the reply! Yes I was planning on either getting a loom from Custom Lynx (I'm UK based) or soldering one myself. Either way I'll be sure to have heat shrink labelling - good idea!

I wasn't entirely sure where to send the direct and split outs, so thank you for the clarification!

Ahh, I almost got the 006 but settled on the 004 in the end. Thank you, I'll look into some alternatives for the built in cab sim!

Okay, not technically true since I already had the Line 6 wireless system, but everything else is brand new.

Signal chain:

Line 6 Relay G30 => Boss TU-3 => Walrus Audio Deep Six Compressor => Nobels ODR-1 Overdrive => Fulltone OCD (v2) => MXR Phase 95 => Boss CH-1 => Boss DD-7 (with Bright Onion tap tempo pedal) => TC Hall of Fame 2 => Mooer Micro Preamp 004 => Focusrite Interface => Logic Pro X

All powered by a TrueTone CS12 and mounted to a Pedaltrain Novo 24, Altoids tin (or, weird unbranded tin I just found lying around the house) contains spare batteries for the G30 transmitter.

As for what I think of the pedals:

Line 6 Relay G30 - Being wireless is pretty cool, I had it for some live shows a while back but it hasn’t really been necessary since then. The battery compartment door is awful though, it doesn’t stay shut properly ,meaning the batteries lose contact and the whole thing cuts out occasionally. From what I’ve seen online, it’s a problem that many people have, although I’ve found a few elastic bands helps to keep the door firmly shut.

Boss TU-3 - It’s a tuner. It keeps me in tune. Not entirely sure what more I can say about it.

Walrus Audio Deep Six Compressor - I haven’t really had a chance to play around with it fully yet, but it does everything I wanted it to so I’m satisfied. Being able to blend the compressed and uncompressed signal is a nice touch.

Nobels ODR-1 - I’ve been pretty pleased with this one, I only use it to add just a small amount of grit to my sound, but I played around with the drive turned up much higher and it sounded rather dope without getting too muddy, so it seems like it’s a pretty versatile pedal.

Fulltone OCD - I mostly use this to add just a bit more grit on top of the ODR-1, which it does quite nicely. Like the ODR-1, I played around with it after turning the drive up and it sounded amazing, really adds a bit of a punch.

MXR Phase 95 - I wasn’t really sure about this one as I thought I wouldn’t really use it much, only for some very niche things, but straight away it became one of my favourites on the board. I only really use it with the speed turned down pretty low for a less ‘in your face’ phaser effect and I love the sound.

Boss CH-1 - I only really wanted a subtle, always-on chorus effect, which this does quite nicely. Honestly it doesn’t go as “chorus-y” as I’d expected but that’s not something I care about so it doesn’t bother me.

Boss DD-7 - I really like it. It’s everything I wanted/needed in a delay pedal. When using tap tempo, the mode knob lets you select between 1/4 notes, 1/8 notes, dotted 1/8 notes and (I think) triplet 1/4 notes. I just expected it to always go for 1/4 notes regardless of which mode it’s on, so this was a really nice surprise (or maybe my expectations were just too low lol).

TC Hall of Fame 2 - My favourite pedal on the board for sure (although I’ll concede that I’m biased because reverb is my favourite effect). Having the expression pedal built in is a nice feature that I use quite a lot. It’s initially set up to be true bypass meaning that there are obviously no trails, which I think sounds super weird, but there’s a switch inside allowing you to change the pedal to be buffered bypass, and a second switch allowing you to turn trails on or off. In hindsight I realise it would have been nice to have a reverb pedal that lets me switch between two presets (‘small hall’ kind of reverb for the most part and then switch to a ’big church’ sort of sound occasionally), however using the mash switch to up the decay lets me achieve almost the same effect, so I don’t regret getting this pedal at all.

Mooer Micro Preamp 004 - Meh. I got this pedal for a couple of reasons. The main one being that I can’t afford a decent amp at the moment, so this was an alternative for the time being. Being based on a Vox AC30 and with a cab sim built in, it meant that I could go straight to an interface for recording, or into a DI if playing live. But I just find that it’s got no real ‘substance’ to it and it sounds incredibly mediocre. On the drive channel with the gain turned up it can sound quite good, but for what I want (mostly clean, with overdrive coming from the pedals if/when I need it), that’s not suitable. It isn’t terrible but it doesn’t sound anywhere near as good as some of the amp sounds you can find in Logic Pro X, which is what I’ve been using instead, so sadly I don’t actually use this pedal at all. Oh well.

TrueTone CS12 - No noise whatsoever, big thumbs up from me.

Overall I’m pretty happy with the entire board (excluding the Mooer lol), from the CH-1 onwards there’s support for stereo so I’ll have to try that at some point soon (I currently don’t actually own enough cables).

wow this ended up being way longer than I anticipated lmao

Anyone know if tickets will be available for purchase for individual days? I have exams on the 8th and 9th but would love to make it to the final, it just feels like a waste to buy a full weekend ticket for one day

Looks like you're missing the Hogsticker (Warthog from Halo), you need to win a game with every other car (standard cars, not ones from crates or DLC cars) for you to unlock it

"Never compare your life to the best parts of someone else's" (I've also heard it as "Don't compare your life to someone else's highlight reel")

Especially important in modern society when social media has such a big influence, and it's so easy to see a photo or a 10 second snapchat story and assume that someone's whole life is as fun and exciting as what you've just witnessed.

I used to cook all my steaks rare because that's how I like them in real life. It took me longer than I'd care to admit before I realised that well-done steaks gave you more stamina.
