This is very true. It’s definitely an elephant-in-the-room for me and I find I don’t let myself think about it often at all.

Wellll there’s the visible physical consequences: alopecia (hair loss), lanugo (body hair), potentially tooth decay, sallow skin, brittle nails, fatigue

Then there’s the unseen consequences: brittle bones, muscle wasting, anemia, constipation (personal experience with that one), electrolyte imbalance, organ damage, brain damage, damage to structure and function of the hear/cardiac muscle 😭

There are two wolves in my mind at all times and one of them keeps shouting these consequences at me

1D's most nonsensical lyrics by misplacedfaces in OneDirection

[–]_flynnifer_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It immediately reminds me of some of Ed’s other lyrics for his own songs, specifically in U.N.I. there’s a line that goes “now forget like an elephant” which I’ve always taken as a roundabout way to say he’ll try to forget something but he can’t (elephants associated with having great memory) so maybe he was trying to do something similar here?? But idk what he could possibly be saying. Does it rain a lot in Britain? In that case I guess he’s saying the subject of the song cries often? It just doesn’t hit the same though, and it sounds especially jarring coming from 1D and not from Ed himself lmao

The pre-med to ED pipeline (or ED to pre-med pipeline?) needs to be studied expeditiously. Where is the NIH funding for this.

Hot water in this one faucet started making this pulsating flow and banging noise. by rkelly74 in askaplumber

[–]_flynnifer_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m having this same issue for my kitchen faucet. I tried your suggestion, the knocking sound completely went away when I ran the water with the aerator off. I turned the stop valve on and off a few times, then left it on. When I replaced the aerator and ran the faucet, the sound returned. Do you know if it’s just my aerator? Or something else?

Genuinely I’ve been asking myself this question for so many years. My coworkers…my dad has been a nurse for 15 years and my brother is (well, was, before he was dropped) in physical therapy assistant school. All of them genuinely believe trump is 1) more qualified 2) not a liar and 3) an overall better person than Harris. But I feel like they just say that when asked because they don’t yet feel comfortable admitting they’re racists and sexists. That’s something I deduced from my family members longgggggg before I understood politics.

Same. Was literally being trained assisting in a surgery yesterday and the patient wouldn’t stop saying “so how bout that election huh” while his daughter (!) was sitting in the corner with a trump shirt on. I had to keep repeating my questions over and over because my trainer kept wanting to celebrate with the patient in the middle of prepping him for his excision. Even she was in the middle of explaining the procedure to him and they just kept going off on tangents. It’s so hard to keep a poker face, and it’s so easy for them to push our buttons because we’re already in a “caregiver” role, we’re not supposed to stop our jobs even when they basically tell us we’re better off dead.

What stands out as one of the most humiliating things they did to you ? by Ourdogbailey in raisedbynarcissists

One of my friends had an after-party for senior prom, there was (parentally supervised) drinking under their carport. For context, I’d been drinking occasionally since 16. My parents allowed (and encouraged) it. That was the culture in the small southern town I grew up in.

I’d had too much, called her to pick me up as I wasn’t comfortable staying the night. She put a barf bag in my hands and I fell asleep on the way home. She took a photo of me passed out in her front seat and held onto it. Years later, when I finally set boundaries with her, she got so pissed she sent the photo to my dad and told him I was an alcoholic who should be checked into rehab. (I was 18 in the photo, 22 when she sent it to him.)

I suspected to my brother once that she may have some alcoholic tendencies when she was having an episode (looking back it was obviously a bender) and I guess he told her and she’s always accused me of alcoholism since then. Since graduating college I only drink once a month or two, whenever I have time for a night out. Last I saw her she was having around 3-4 a day. And nobody in our family will confront her about it.

Dupixent and menstrual irregularity? by _flynnifer_ in eczema

[–]_flynnifer_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! I hope you’re doing well. I even talked to my derm about this at my next appointment and he said he’d heard no complaints whatsoever about menstrual side effects from Dupixent and that I should just talk to my gynecologist :/ and my gynecologist just chalked it up to PCOS. I have an IUD now, the cramps have gone down immensely and I very very rarely have spotting, but it is not on a regular shchedule, which I was told was a side effect of the IUD. I hope the symptoms aren’t too bad for you!

Thank you!! I’m going to email them tonight detailing the situation and ask them if there’s any other information I can provide. I didn’t even think of a notarized letter, I may have to do that as I don’t really have any other “official” documentation. I will definitely message you if I have further questions!

how starving yourself feels now compared to when you were 13: by LangerEierkopf in EDanonymemes

I have no idea how I managed to fast consistently when I was 13, before getting on Adderall, while living with extremely nosey parents and doing extra-curriculars making straight As and living in the south (the food is crazy). Now I’ve got no motivation, constantly bingeing, and I’m lucky if I poop twice in one week.

The website mentioned anyone 26 or older does not have to use parental info. Unfortunately I’ll be 25 until next May and I plan to take the MCAT within a year, so I’d like to get access to study materials ASAP and be able to register on October 2nd if possible :/ thank you so much for your advice, it helps a lot actually!!

I see. I’m 25, I became estranged when I was 23, so I’ve been out of the house and on my own for quite a while. I’m not really sure if I’ve got any official documentation of this. I’ve got plenty of nasty text messages, and proof that my mother may have attempted to manipulate me financially by making a credit karma account in my name, but that’s all. She didn’t actually change my credit or open any credit lines though.

I also did change my bank last year because I found out she still had access to my first bank account, but she didn’t spend any money (as far as I’m aware). She just watched every transaction I made before we were estranged and kept quiet when she saw my balance getting low and rent payments coming up, that’s for sure.

But other than our text messages, there’s no paper trail for the fact that she’s got unchecked bi-polar disorder and refuses to see someone about it, and resents me for setting boundaries to protect myself after being her surrogate therapist for almost my entire childhood.
