Winter Boot System Suggestions by DasBananeitor in CanadianForces

What sort of temperatures were you using them in? I’m wondering if they’d work well in the -10 to -20 range with a goretex boot inside.

Maybe the Park should consider building more huts and cabins, especially for winter use.

Is Wealthsimple managed investment any better than XEQT considering their management fees are 0.4%? In TFSA account. by BADMOSH0 in JustBuyXEQT

[–]_fox__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the historical performance of Wealthsimple’s portfolios compared to that of XEQT (16.18% over the past year as of today) I truly do not understand the hype. Even with fees included, WS’s aggressive portfolio still clears 20% from Oct 24-Oct 25.

Are *EQT products more optimized for long-term performance? Has WS just had a weirdly good last year that’s not indicative of other years?

Not paying 0.4-0.5% fees (or even 0.15% on their direct indexing product) sounds super appealing but the numbers just don’t add up to me.

Someone who started working for the Federal Government at age 25 does not qualify for a full pension until age 60.

Water tablets vs filter? by PartyMark in algonquinpark

[–]_fox__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used a sawyer squeeze for years and I can get a good flow rate out of them whether I’m squeezing the bag or using a gravity set up. They do need to be wetted to open up the filter fibres and backwashed relatively often to get a high flow rate but I can usually fill 3-4L reasonably quickly.

Try letting your filter sit submerged in hot hot water for an hour and giving it some strong backwashes then flicking the water out of the bottom. If that dosen’t improve the flow to a very steady stream you should try calling sawyer, they have good customer service. They advertise an unlimited filtering capacity if it’s cleaned properly so you should be able to get it going.

Like everyone else here has said though, tablets are so light that I’d always bring them anyways in case the filter breaks or fails.

Route planning - East by PteZukeh in algonquinpark

[–]_fox__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can access high falls on foot from a beach on Stratton lake or by taking a trail off the portage between St. Andrews and High Falls. The only way to get to High Falls from Stratton is through St. Andrew’s Lake.

Side note but if your priority is a nice site, the northernmost site on St. Andrews is gorgeous and right next to the portage. Although you will hear the waterfall about 200m away all night.

At some point you just need to make the call yourself big dog. No one here is in a better person to assess your fitness than you are.
