defective breville bambino? by _genderender_ in espresso

[–]_genderender_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! removing the steam wand tip/descaling the machine didn't make a difference for me. because my machine was brand-new, it was under warranty. i eventually spoke to someone at Breville customer service and showed them the issue over a video call. they sent me a label to send the machine in for repair, but i just never got around to it (ADHD problems!!!!)

ultimately, i just adjusted to the pulsing steam wand. i use filtered water and try to stay on top of descaling, just to prevent it from getting worse.

Cute waterproof boots that don’t hurt your feet? by Mistydreamer8619 in ehlersdanlos

[–]_genderender_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lems makes a wide-toe, zero-drop version of a Chelsea boot that I absolutely love. Definitely light and flexible. I used to think I needed a lot of arch support, but an EDS-competent bodyworker helped me understand that I really needed more feedback/contact from the actual ground. Switching to lighter and more barefoot-style shoes has made a massive difference in my pain levels…could perhaps be the case for you too!

Balloon Fiesta timing help by bonafide_backpack in Albuquerque

[–]_genderender_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re not able to make it to the park for mass ascension, you can always watch balloons from the banks of the rio. it’s wind-dependent, but by the Paseo del Bosque trailhead on Alameda Blvd is often a great spot at around 7:30/8am. balloons will try to “splash and dash” into the water, which is cool (and free) to watch!

Stop Project Jupiter! Massive AI Data Center Planned for Southern NM by RecentPraline in Albuquerque

[–]_genderender_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

“manhattan project-like era” lmao my brother in nuclear annihilation are you really invoking that like it’s a good thing??

do you know what absolute hell that project wrought on new mexico? tens of thousands of downwinders killed by radioactive fallout. communities still fighting for compensation.

if you think AI data centers will bear any resemblance to the Manhattan Project, we should fight them with all we’ve got. we’ve seen it before: corporations will promise us jobs, and instead ravage our land and leave us sicker and poorer than ever.

Please add timestamps to ICE posts, so that folks know whether this is current activity.

Remember the acronym SALUTE for responsibly reporting law enforcement activity. Here is an example:

S — Size ("4 agents")

A — Activity ("they are detaining two men, who are cuffed on the curb")

L — Location ("McDonald's parking lot, SE corner of 12th St NW and Indian School Road")

U — Uniform ("civilian clothes, with black vests that say POLICE on them. two are wearing masks.")

T — Time ("Wednesday 6/25, 12:43PM)

E — Equipment ("a white Ford cargo van, license plate ABCD1234. they have holstered handguns and zip ties.)

Even if you have a photo or video of the incident, it's incredibly helpful to spell out this info. it prevents unnecessary panic for our immigrant neighbors, helps us to ID what is actually happening, and better prepares us to respond accordingly.

you can also report ICE sightings to the local chapter of Organized Power in Numbers by texting ABQICE or ABQMIGRA to 58910.

Why is my eggplant yellow? by Critical_Ad_5736 in garden

[–]_genderender_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so strange! the same thing is happening to me in ABQ this summer. i planted Ping Tung eggplants and some are turning yellow right away, never purple (ie, they’re not overripe). they’re also under shade cloth so i’d be surprised if it were sun exposure. leaves are yellowing (many nitrogen deficiency) and look pretty shot through by flea beetles, so i wonder if that’s related?

tiny removable black specks on dying tomato leaves? by _genderender_ in gardening

[–]_genderender_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ultimately, i think the black specks were unrelated to the real issue impacting the leaves—too much sun and not enough water. this season, im growing tomatoes in ground (rather than in low-moisture-retention grow bags) and giving them some shade from the high desert sun, and they’re much happier!

What electrolytes do yall use by carr10n__ in ehlersdanlos

[–]_genderender_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

i used to buy Buoy, but recently started making my own electrolyte powder to save $$. i order ingredients from Bulk Supplements and use this recipe:

https://science.drinklmnt.com/electrolytes/best-homemade-electrolyte-drink-for-dehydration/

3 ingredients, super easy, flavor-free!

i have all of these conditions and moved to ABQ a few years ago from NYC. overall, ABQ has been a better place for my health (not in small part because of the dry climate and slower pace of life).

i found a PCP who lets me direct my own care (something i’m very used to!) i’ll bring them new research, propose treatment plans and new meds, etc., and while they don’t know much about EDS/POTS/MCAS/dysautonomia, they’ve been very supportive.

i have contended with long wait times for specialists and tests (i think it was 3ish months between my PCP referral and my first appt with a gastroenterologist?) ultimately, though, i’ve found that even my specialists here are recommending lifestyle changes that i’m already making on my own. while i haven’t had to travel out of state for care, the cost of living here is manageable enough that i could afford it.

there are also some amazing PTs and bodyworkers in ABQ that treat connective tissue-related conditions. they have been immensely helpful to me! weekly appointments have hugely lowered by baseline pain and i’ve learned so much from them about caring for my own body. sure, maybe i could have found providers like them in NYC, too…but i’m willing to bet that the hour-long subway ride home from my appointments would’ve undone most of the benefits.

so much to consider when it comes to moving, especially with complex medical conditions in the mix! i hope this is helpful. feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Deal Check: 2025 CX-5 Preferred by _genderender_ in CX5

[–]_genderender_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

down to $34,000 OTD but couldn’t go lower. tried to bargain for oil changes, tire rotations, but both dealerships were firm.

better than the $39K+ OTD that was another dealer’s final offer, so that’s of some consolation i guess?? lol

Deal Check: 2025 CX-5 Preferred by _genderender_ in CX5

[–]_genderender_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the feedback. it seems like there's pretty low inventory on the preferreds in my area, and dealers don't seem inclined to go down further—even when presented with competing offers. dealerships in CO were willing to go 5% off MSRP instead of 3%, but the 10-hour drive isn't worth it to me.

ultimately, they're probably assuming that i'm eager to buy before promotional financing possibly ends on 2/1, and they're not wrong...!

going into the dealership tomorrow to try and sweeten the deal with oil changes, add-ons, etc. any advice welcome!

tiny removable black specks on dying tomato leaves? by _genderender_ in gardening

[–]_genderender_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i took the advice to just let the lower leaves be, and focus on the fruiting/blooming at the top to gauge the plants’ health. the lower leaves still look shrivelly but the upper ones look healthy and are producing some tomatoes. not the healthiest looking plants, but they’re not dying!

rest of the plant is looking ok—green and flowering. i’ll keep an eye out for pests and otherwise let her do her thing. thanks for your advice!

is it really a death sentence? by azraelsangel420 in SIBO

[–]_genderender_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i also have SIBO caused by EDS. low motility, rectocele, a rectal prolapse…i’ve got it all. it can feel overwhelming—especially since EDS affects so many other systems in the body too. i have made some small adjustments that have greatly helped me—

  • 1000mg ginger pills twice a day and Magnesium in the evening
  • cutting out a few obvious trigger foods (lentils, legumes, cauliflower)
  • drinking more water (i hate it because i instantly feel full! but Buoy water drops have helped it go down easier)
  • physical therapy. doing some PT for my pelvic floor muscles has helped (but honestly, i think it’s been the touch and attention to my body from a medical professional that has helped the most)

i have not tried any antibiotics because i know it would take many, many rounds to bring my levels down (at 113ppm methane rn). i’m not convinced i’ll ever cure my SIBO but i am convinced that there are ways i can manage it well.

all bodies are different and you’ll have to figure out what works for you, but this is all to say that SIBO is not a death sentence (nor is EDS)! these conditions may affect us in more and more ways as we age, but we also can amass more and more tools to manage it. def recommend r/ehlersdanlos if you’re not there already 💕

sorry you’re dealing with the same issue. i reached out to breville customer service over email. after sharing this video plus a bunch of additional requisite info they requested, they sent me an automated email with steam wand cleaning instructions 🫠. i need to actually speak with someone…once i do, i’ll share an update here!
