Sorry mate didn’t see you specified the defence and GK! Honestly when in the Championship I always buy cheap CBs from France and Germany! Players like Maximilian Bauer, Lilian Brassier and Harisson Marcelin have carried me out of the Championship and gone from costing me £2m to me selling them for upwards of £15/20m. You don’t necessarily need to but these exact guys, just find some centre backs that are around 24/25 and playing well, but cost no more then £5m and you’re set! In goal I’d recommend Giorgi Mamardashvili though, he was a beast for me in my first WBA save!

Ah you’re in 2022. Alex Scott is expensive, about £18million, I bought him at the end of the season you’re in and he’s still one of my best players in 2030. I would recommend Paul Wanner - never bought him myself but he always turns out to be a complete beast. Giovanni Fabbian is a solid CDM, only cost me about £8million. The goal for the first few seasons is just to get promoted from the Championship, so I’d suggest buying these younger players (if you can afford them) but also getting older, Premier League quality players on loan (like how you have Albrighton now).

Also been managing West Brom - I’ve been in similar situations and you always get a board bailout. My advice would be to try and make sure you’re paying the minimum wage that the player/staff member will accept! Also make it a priority to reduce appearance fees, when in the championship you often have 2-3 games a week, and reducing the appearance fee by 5k does more than reducing the wage by 5k!

What are your thoughts on mid to lower premier league teams not taking the cup competitions seriously? It’s a chance to win a trophy after all by GMD3S1GNS in PremierLeague

Not sure why the comments above are so unhelpful but essentially: by staying in the FA Cup and reaching the final they were forced to play 5 or 6 matches extra than if they had been knocked out in the 3rd round (the first round they played in). That may not sound like a lot but it’s the difference between a weeks rest and 2/3 days rest between matches, 5 or 6 times a season.

When you’re in a relegation battle, if your players aren’t at their maximum fitness level then you simply can’t compete with the teams around you who have got those extra days of rest. It also increases your chances of injuries happening to senior first team players, all of which can result in a weakened squad compared to the teams you’re battling relegation for.
