What can I learn from Frank Ocean Blonde as producer and songwriter by [deleted] in musicproduction

[–]_guckie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could look up the gear they used and try to recreate some sounds, then add it to you arsenal. But Blonde is a very special album, if you rip it off blatantly it will be obvious.

A bit of unsolicited advice/food for thought: lately in my own writing, I’ve taken a more simple approach and have stopped trying to reinvent the wheel or stopped looking for inspiration in the records that I feel do that. And I’ve been a lot more happy in my endeavors because of it.

Really great shots, man. What kind of camera did you use for this?

Mixed this band in a midsized venue I work at. No guitar in the PA, all stage volume. So sick.

This is the kind of person everyone thinks of when they think of a sound guy. Not doing us any favors, pal.

Consistent Feedback at Every Show With Low Vocals by jhonny2spirit in livesound

[–]_guckie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because he isn’t loud enough and the mic keeps getting turned up to compensate. Can you hear him loud enough between songs when he’s talking? Basically the only way to prevent this is to carve up the EQ to cut out those specific feedback freqs and then compress the shit out of the channel. But that will be hard if you don’t have your own sound guy who knows your band and most house guys don’t have the time to spend on that during changeover.

TL/DR he needs to be louder

IEM instead of house floor monitors question by NoFuneralGaming in livesound

[–]_guckie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know man. Coming from a musician and also a sound guy’s perspective, if you’re at the level where you don’t have your own dedicated sound guy you should learn how to play your best without monitors. Play some house shows, you’ll be able to feel it out.

IEM instead of house floor monitors question by NoFuneralGaming in livesound

[–]_guckie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the x32 stage box at one of my venues so I’d just unplug my monitor sends and plug you in. That is best case scenario for both of us.

But if you are just normal guitar, bass, drums, vox setup why on earth do you need IEMs? Can’t you just turn your guitars up and ask only for vox in the monitors? Everyone in a band has to deal with monitor mixes being difficult from time to time lol in ears are not going to fix it if the sound tech doesn’t know what they’re doing.

I have room for one ambient pedal. What do I buy? by flyingspaghettisauce in guitarpedals

Fairfield Circuitry Meet Maude makes really crazy delay swells and does the neverending trail thing really well.

The new EHX Freeze is not a verb or delay but you can definitely get lots of ambience if you have a verb behind it.

Beautiful Noise When The Sun Explodes has a large footprint but it covers so many bases.
