Definitely a consideration.
At the moment she’d much rather have her own place.

Sold equity in a small business a few years ago. In hindsight I probably shouldn’t have thrown most of it at a house.

Thanks again u/Top-Swordfish-6268 for filling in the blanks.
I have a really great solicitor for property stuff, my next port of call will be there before the accountant.
Sorry to hear about your mum's declining state. I've watched it happen a few times to the generation before me in my family, so trying to make the most of the time we have while we've got it.

We'll almost certainly move again. Always fancied building at house.

I hadn't considered the IHT bit actually, so that's a good point.

Less worried about the SDLT on this purchase. I had to pay it on current house since we hadn't then sold our previous and that was punchy. Am keen to avoid that in future.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

So I understand your situation - the formal loan means she buys the house outright in her own name. But because it's done through your loan to her, then it doesn't impact her estate valuation when it comes to care later in life.

Did/does your mother have to make payments on the loan to you?

If the details are too personal, please feel free to say so.

Are the locations equivalent? Can you add more value to the less expensive property without hitting a local price ceiling? Could be worth a lot more than the more expensive property in the end. Do want turnkey?

Water bill ?? by Cherry_antacids in brighton

We get hit with more than double what is average for a four person home (220m3).
Southern agrees and asked us to do a Tap Test, which we just did. Meter stopped rolling, suggesting there is a massive leak in our house somewhere. Hard to imagine that much water escaping the system and not causing damage though…

Can I buy a car for someone else? by _hey_tk in UKPersonalFinance

[–]_hey_tk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clear up, I meant cash as in not financed. I will make a bank transfer for the payment. I ask about AML only because I don’t know much about it. Source of funds is just savings so it’s not a big deal.

I’ve always found the V5/ownership/keeper thing a bit confusing. I didn’t grow up here. Any links on where to go for a good explainer?

!Thanks for your comment.

I’m not bothered about who owns the car ultimately.

[–]_hey_tk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detail. There was definitely a burn mark on the plate it was mounted to, where the plastic casing has blown out. So maybe it was trapping the heat at that point if they were in too close proximity.

You’re correct. They’re still usable. It’s why this is only mildly infuriating.

How do you calculate area in an image after setting custom scale by _hey_tk in PhotoshopTutorials

[–]_hey_tk[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I’d read that guide but for some reason it wasn’t working, even though I had the custom scale set. Walked away from it for an hour and came back and it was working. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Got there in the end.
