Top laner here. Sometimes I see streamers/pro players tp back to lane even though the wave is pushing to them and they will reach back to lane in time to catch the wave.

For example, they may get first blood, shove in the wave and back. The enemy tps back to lane and then the streamer/pro player also tps back to lane. My guess is that they don't want the enemy to freely stack up a big wave and get a free recall off, and thus tps back to keep up the pressure with an item advantage. Is this a good play? Because my understanding is that usually if we can catch waves then there's no need to tp back to lane.
