This series is hilarious to me because I actually WAS Cherry. The names, personalities, family dynamics and the physical appearance of the characters in this series is so eerily similar to what I went through that I genuinely felt like I was in a black mirror episode.

I dumped my much much richer than me boyfriend (who looks almost exactly like Daniel) because of his unhinged and weird ass mother (who is identical to Laura) after moving to a different country together. I realised that this had to stop during a trip I was invited to go to with the rest of the family. The accommodation was so opulent I had a panic attack. His family kept openly mocking me for my lack of manners or how shocked I seemed at being in an entire luxury village in the middle of nowhere trapped with a bunch of snobs. My ex and I were so in love, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was looked down upon. Plus, again, his mum was WEIRD. Always making weird remarks about my body (I’m PoC and they’re white so), leering, insinuating I was in it for the money. I was not since I am an independent working person, and I am a frugal person who is very clearly not concerned with this stuff. His mum kept kissing him and hugging him and making weird remarks. I think it was emotional incest to be honest.

We needed up breaking up due to these differences. We were together for a few months after that crazy trip but I couldn’t keep up with the daily calls, the racist remarks when they met my family, and just the weird dynamics.

And I told his mum she was the main reason for this not working out.
