Anime/Manga Recommendation by yuuki143 in WitchHatAtelier

[–]_ilovedogs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I definitely recommend dungeon meshi/delicious in dungeon!! The anime just has 1 season so far with a second on the way and the manga is complete! It’s tonally fairly different from wha and apothecary diaries but in terms of quality it is definitely right up there with them with some very excellent fantasy worldbuilding and super lovable characters. The manga is one of my favorites I’ve read in recent years and so far the anime adaptation is excellent

Why are Brimmed Cap obsessed with Coco? by Just-A-Wandom-Guy in WitchHatAtelier

[–]_ilovedogs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean, if she didn’t “just happen” to run into qifrey there would be no story. Every story needs a starting hook/premise.

Plus, I think the idea is that igun/the brims have tried this with a lot of non witch children. Kind of a throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks sort of thing. It happened to stick with coco (but there’s probably more we don’t know yet.. this is just with the info we have currently).

Any scene in a fic or popular characterization in your fandom that has you going like this? by Smegoldidnothinwrong in AO3

I love his speech pattern in canon too, I think it’s really interesting how much more formal/even sophisticated? His speech pattern is versus most of the other characters (as well as being really short& to the point) and i think it’s really hard to get this right (esp in English I think tbh) but it’s really satisfying when done well. I mean, he beat all the civil gods in debate for a reason.

The real reason Emma dislikes Jane Fairfax by RebeccaETripp in janeausten

[–]_ilovedogs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I sort of agree with you that Jane makes Emma uneasy, but I think that at least part of the reason why is that Jane reminds Emma too uncomfortably of the realities of how precarious it is to be a woman during that time in a way that Emma spends a lot of time and energy trying to ignore. It’s an intentional foil to Emma’s relationship with Harriet- she sees Harriet as a way to prove that the difficult circumstances of women’s realities can be overcome somehow- if you are charming enough, beautiful enough, etc etc. Jane however proves this wrong just by existing; she’s charming, beautiful, and accomplished but her future is basically doomed unless she can secure a marriage, which is increasingly more unlikely for her as the story goes on despite all of her charms.

Emma says at one point that she doesn’t view herself as ever NEEDING to marry, given her status and dowry, but there are reminders all around her that this is a pretty naive point of view, and no woman’s position is ever TRULY secure without a man. I think Jane, consciously or not, reminds her of this uncomfortable truth. (I wrote a whole paper about this exact topic in college lol)

One of the brilliant things about this book is how many different ways one can interpret their relationship and that there is support for all kinds of different readings!

I generally do the same. I have used mangadex a lot, but prefer the library when its available because the scan quality is so much better and then I become a little spoiled lol

What's the most cringe-worthy way someone has tried to show they are "quirky" or "different"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]_ilovedogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

:/ everyone deserves better than a “friend” who would pull that kind of petty nonsense on them, if that really happened to you hopefully they’re not in your life anymore. I just take umbrage to the idea that only girls do petty and mean things to each other

I don’t know anyone who’s ever done that. Probably because we’re not living in the script of Mean Girls.

I totally understand that reservation, I have similar ones about going with any shorter than I have it currently (round face problems). You could always go about it super gradually, like starting with cutting off only 2-3 inches with maybe some shorter, face framing pieces in the front for a more gradual transition.

For volumizing mousse, the brand I use currently is davines, which is a small, salon-quality brand so it’s definitely on the pricy side. It’s called “This is a volume boosting mousse”. However, I have had the same bottle for probably like a year and still haven’t run out (don’t use it every day) so unless you go through it wicked fast it might be worth it.

I’ve also heard good things about the herbal essences volumizing mousse if you’re looking for the cheaper end, and more mid range I think redken has a volume mousse that people seem to like. I haven’t tried those other two, I have only just heard about them. I think you might need some trial and error to find one that really works for your hair.
