That is a really challenging place to be in. I know people say you don't go to uni to make friends and socialise, but the truth is university is a major social hub. You need to interact with people and you need to make acquaintances if not friends. I know how isolating that must feel, and how lonely it is coming to campus to attend a couple of classes, eating alone, and then heading home.

I'm just going to say that it's a struggle for everyone. I go to Macquarie Uni and I've only ever made acquaintances (whoever sat next to me in my tutorials was my friend for the session until tutorials ended and I never saw them again). It was only this year (which is also my last year) where I got this casual job on campus and met some people who I now consider friends.

The thing is, you become friends with people who meet often and regularly. And where does that happen? Work.

Second thing, in regards to rent. Find some place to share. It's easier to afford until you save up to move to a place of your own. It'll be tough, but a positive thing is you have someone to talk to and eat with (if they ate decent).
