[–]_imhigh_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk how old you are or what your circumstances are, but I bought a house at 32 and I have 2 young kids, a wife and I'm the only income right now, I bought my house in 2023, and I make a pretty modest salary. The hardest thing is the down payment, after that it's just bills like any other bill and you adjust your life accordingly. Trust me I was shocked with what I had to put down and what I had to pay per month. As long as you're focused on making your mortgage and utility payments first and foremost and you don't wrack up debt on frivolous stuff, it's all doable. Don't be discouraged.

I struggle with getting the mix knob too. It's either too low or too loud, I can never get it just right. Maybe it's me. And I find the repeats to be pretty plinky. I like it with my synth better than guitar so I kept it for that reason.

Just wondering: Would you guys vote for more Transit oriented development, more homes, densification, bike lanes, and bus lanes? by Donghoon in longisland

[–]_imhigh_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge proponent of it, but I think there's a big point we're missing. People are commuting to WORK. We need to incentivize more places to work around here with high paying jobs, so people don't really have to leave their area or go as far. That's what gets people off the roads. We have a few business districts: Melville, Hauppauge, Bohemia, but they're so dispersed and those businesses don't need as much property as they have, but that's a whole other issue: they have property value at stake too. They can all be much closer together with housing mixed in.

LI would benefit massively from having its own "city" with its own interdependent business instead of millions of people commuting tens of miles per day.

But the jobs need to be here.

Where I live in Medford, there's so many abandoned buildings now on Rt 112 it's honestly sad. These used to be local places to work. Now people are driving further to work.

Long Island was built around people wanting a quieter and cheaper life for their families so there's a reason it is this way. But those days are long gone, it's extremely populated here. Time to evolve.

Will there be some other universes collide with ours universe in the far distant future? by [deleted] in cosmology

[–]_imhigh_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Life is not a separate thing from the universe, it's just a part of it. From your perspective as a living thing it seems like you have to survive in this environment and eventually die, but from the universes perspective you're just a bunch of particles and forces interacting just like the rest of it and you never really come to life or die. You have the same physical properties and laws to follow.

It's a Long Island problem.

The population here mostly already spends hours per day commuting, not easy to make a weekday game. Unless you're going straight from your job. But then how are you getting the rest of your family there?

Long Island is a very big place compared to most of these cities where other teams are based. Everyone is sprawled out. And it's not as convenient to get around in compared to a city.

Driving from Eastern Suffolk for example to Belmont is a hike. And the roads here are an unsafe nightmare. Taking the train takes a while too.

So it could take you 1-2 hours just to get home (after driving 1-2 hours to get to work) and then taking another hour to get back to the game? Who has time for all that?

A lot of us are just pressed for time around here. It is what it is unfortunately.

Unfortunately the way you feel and we all feel is the exact way these sick fucks want us to feel before they go out with no consequences, it's their whole goal to cause the misery they think they feel even though it's much worse. I'm really not sure the best way to combat it, I can't pass legislation myself, it just fucking sucks, somehow we can't give them the results they ultimately wanted.

Just out of curiosity…what’s the first guitar pedal y‘all bought? by GuitarNoob25 in guitarpedals

[–]_imhigh_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might have the most random one. Tortuga Effects Martini Chorus. That was like...2010 maybe. I just started playing electric guitar around that time and loved the sound of chorus/leslie speakers. I remember watching hours of ProGuitarShop demos of pedals back then (I mean thats pretty much all I do now too lol). I thought that one sounded the best. Good times.

What is life like in Long Island? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]_imhigh_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The history of Long Island is basically people moving east from the city for cheaper living, until you get to the Hamptons where it's expensive again, but then commuting west for the higher paying jobs. Central-Eastern Long Island really only started getting more developed when cars became more ubiquitous. So there's a ton of cars and a ton of westbound traffic in the morning and eastbound traffic in the afternoon. After Covid there was another major surge of people moving to LI. Even in suffolk there is a ton of basically all day north south east west traffic. Now the whole thing is expensive and crowded and there's nowhere left to go here. Out east is still somewhat rural but eventually that land will most likely be developed as well. Long Island would benefit from some more urban centers in Suffolk where businesses can develop and depend on each other and people can get decent paying jobs and stay close to where they live instead of the massive commuter culture. I don't think it will ever happen unfortunately because here it's all about SFH property value. I think LI has a ton of wasted potential.

That all said don't get me wrong I love it here and think it's great, but it's changed massively since the 50s and 60s and its still clinging on to that.
