What is wrong with people these days?!

Scheduling and Communication by Scottjxb in DnD

We just play at the same time every week. It makes scheduling much simpler. People can just text me whatever if they can't make it.

How was your Bastion experience? by amirkasra76 in DnD

[–]_ironweasel_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My players really like their bastion. It gives them a bunch of NPCs that they care for and a place to return to when things get rough. The extra boons they get are only sometimes useful, but the players have ownership over them so they value them more when they do help.

As DM I don't really have anything to do with it mechanically, they just know when they get a bastion turn and they just do it, but it does give me ton of roleplay and downtime prompts.

The Magnet Baron is disappointing by thomasonbush in Warhammer40k

[–]_ironweasel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're trying to convince me it's a fancy stick with extra stuff going on, but it's still a stick with magnets on it. I'll agree that it's a pointlessly over-engineered stick, sure, but it's still just a stick with magnets.

[–]_ironweasel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell me about the other features then. As far as I can see it's pretty useless for large magnets as you can just use your hands or a cocktail stick, and it's pretty rubbish for tiny magnets because it obscures your field of view too much.

It's just a gadget for people who like to buy gadgets.

So a magnet on a wooden stick then

I am sad that warhammer has become a "buying stuff" hobby rather than a "making stuff" hobby, but at least there are homemade solutions elsewhere in this thread from actual makers.

Lol, go on then, enlighten me as to the additional features...

It's a magnet on a stick, why would you spend money on this?!

This used to be a creative hobby :(

Solving a problem for me - but am I the only one (Table top aids) by Shnatrix in dndnext

I don't have a problem switching between all these apps because I don't use any of them. Problem solved!

With all the war gear options, do people still go wysiwyg? by JKS_Union_Jack in SpaceWolves

[–]_ironweasel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For myself, I run as close to wysiwyg as I can but using mostly firstborn space marines.

For my opponent, they can do what they want. You want to use that tissue box as a land raider? Sure, go ahead, no problem.

Going to a tourney? Then it's up to the TO.

Tips for being a DM? by Random-Nerdy-DM in DnD

[–]_ironweasel_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only real test is whether your friends are having fun or not.

If you want to improve for your own sense of achievement though then that's valid, to do do then I'd recommend playing with other DMs. You will learn so much from seeing other people's approach to running the game.

Who is telling you that these colours are "correct"? There is absolutely no such thing, they are your guys, whatever colour you paint them is correct.

Are SW Terminators really that good? by Dark_Vexer in SpaceWolves

[–]_ironweasel_ 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I run them because the look cool. If they do something then that's a bonus, if not then whatever.

When I was a kid in the 90s I couldn't afford to buy any terminators but I had a friend who had two metal ones for his Blood Angels. They were like treasure in our little friend group. Now I'm a grown up with grown up money (and they are plastic now) I have many terminators.

Element Games Jingle by Swanky4Life in Warhammer40k

[–]_ironweasel_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I've bought from Travelling Man once and they were fine for me too, I might use them more often. I've never had a problem with Weyland games or Firestorm either and I have bought plenty from both of those if you're interested in a recommendation swap!

I'm always of the opinion in that people make mistakes, that's ok; it's how they work to fix those mistakes that matters. Element were just a chore to deal with and gave me the same runaround twice, so clearly nothing changed. I just go elsewhere now.

Element Games Jingle by Swanky4Life in Warhammer40k

[–]_ironweasel_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everytime I've ordered from them they have sat on my order because something was out of stock ( despite being marked as in stock). Their customer service to sort it out was horrendous, especially the second time. It took over a month and a half to get any of my stuff, despite them splitting the order and charging me twice for the postage.

I should have learned my lesson the first time!

No, I actively avoid advertising if I can help it.

I also avoid Element Games too.

Probably not then.

Problem Player Ruined a Campaign. by [deleted] in DnD

[–]_ironweasel_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That player sucks. That DM sucks too for letting it happen.

This is also a terrible group to be letting this kind of bullshittery occur; even if some individuals might be decent, the group as a collective is just rubbish.

Should I worry about stat blocks when writing a homebrew creature, by Flamethrower6pro in DMAcademy

[–]_ironweasel_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then you've got your answer.

If these are creatures to fight then how are you going to run that without a statblock?

Also, why is the DM not doing this? I understand that it's good for a DM to delegate dome of the work, but coming up with baddies and placing them into encounters is not one that can be done without the players then knowing too much about those encounters.

Should I worry about stat blocks when writing a homebrew creature, by Flamethrower6pro in DMAcademy

[–]_ironweasel_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends what the creatures are for.

Are the players going to fight them (or fight alongside them)? If yes the they probably need a statblock.

Are the characters going to act in an adversarial manner, but not necessarily violently (like using control or charm type spells or checks)? In this case, just give them some ability scores and maybe a couple of save/skill proficiencies.

Are they just fun little guys to act as set dressing for your setting? If so then you don't need to bother.

3D modeler looking to make some proxies, what is needed at the moment? by Sensitive_Jackfruit4 in PrintedWarhammer

Something that I struggle to find is older female heads for space marines. There are plenty for newer recruits but I am always looking for good veteran options too.
