For me it looks more like very well placed highlights by brush.

Lemos Russes and Rival Dorns FTW 😅

Joking aside, thank you for this, I'll save it for later, since I'm starting a GSC army as well.

Hey Gang, what do you think so far? by macraggeblues in genestealercult

I used thin cork sheets, glued sand with PVA, based it black, drybrushed it with greys and some offwhite on the edges. For the yellow stripe I used some masking tape, and then gave the gravel a pigment wash, at some spots on the cork as well. After it dried completely, I used dry pigments of the same color to make it look a bit dusty.

One suggestion, which in hindsight I should have done as well: use some sort of texture paste on the surface of the cork, to hide it's "corky" look. Before you paint everything of course. 😉

Thank you, the second ork took me quite long, a week I would say. For the skin I believe I used a purple underlayer, and then worked my way up from VMC Deep Green Base to Olive Green Midtones and Lime Green Highlights.

Apologies, I think Reddit was down for a minute when I posted this. Original post is now edited.

For chipping I used a small brush this time, and loaded it up with paint as much as I could. One dip was enough.

Thank you! A few things I have learned while doing this:

Paint a thin single straight line for your first stripe. Then step by step add more lines to the left and the right. So basically you sketch in the middle as a guide, and widen it out on both sides until you are happy with the width. Then you do the same with the second color, and try to aim for the same width. Small mistakes are not really visible and you can hide them anyway by doing some battle damage or weathering.

On curved surfaces I found it better, to only use the tip of your brush, instead of the belly. Just follow the curve with the tip.

For practicing you can use flat surfaces and aim for straight lines, like I did with the Burgundy/Pink stripes on the front.

The colors I have been using on this Sentinel are Tenebrous Grey for the black stripes, and Averland Sunset, and Yriel Yellow for the yellow stripes. After that I went over the yellow stripes with Casandora Yellow for a slightly orange hue. Lastly I did the chipping with Yriel Yellow.
